Yes he loved a slave girl (Ironically, called Hira) who was 15 when he saw her first. As a tit-bit, she was the one referred to, in HBAS, when Shehzaade tells Akbar 'You are in love... I know the feeling' She died a year later. They say he became even more hard-hearted after she did.

Later on, in his older years, he had a mistress called Udaipuri Begum

Im guessing she would be busy with Hari coming home over the weekends.

Not in this case, Periyamma... the Mughal empire and it's emperors (After Akbar) were quite a fickle and hostile lot that way! Each with their own loyal groups.

If anyone were to be plotting against the Shehenshah at this stage, the Shehzaade would quietly become his friend... we are talking of men who've killed their own fathers, own brothers to get to the throne! (Even Salim is said to have slow-poisoned his father Shehenshah Akbar to get to the throne, meanwhile blinding his own firstborn Khusrao who revolted against him and then showed no grief when another son, Shah Jahan, killed Khusrao😕)

The men after Salim got worse!

So... it's different here...
