Hi All,
So we keep hearing that the show will take a leap and Salim will be all grown up and we'll get to see the Salim Anarkali love story. That's nice and all but wasn't this show about Jodha and Akbar?
When the show started it was all about the fiery Rajput princess Jodha and her equally charismatic husband Emperor Jalal - how they despised each other. How she felt like a political pawn to be forced to marry a Mughal King just to save her own people. How he is smitten by her beauty yet marries her to break her arrogance.
How two essentially good people with very different backgrounds come together and discover each other, themselves and give birth to an epic tale of love, betrayal and political havoc was quite entertaining to watch. The first 6 months of the show were very good - things went down hill with all the saazish and scheming mostly by Maham Anga and getting away with it every time.
I wonder if the writers of the show have changed from the begining of the show - the quality of writing seems to have deteoriated and the character sketches inconsistent - what happened to the extremely sharp and well informed Jalal? What happened to the righteous queen Jodha or the arrogant, tempermental and slightly insecure but politically savy Queen Ruqaiya? All have gone for a toss.
Jalal is not as perceptive as we remember him, Jodha is overly magnanimous and Ruqaiya went from a character with grey shades to out right negative. Its as though she's stepping into the shoes of Maham Anga.
The only characters that have remained consistent are Hamida Bano Begum and Salima Begum - both kind hearted, gentle souls who can be assertive when needed.
Now with the baccha party growing up - the focus shifts from Jodha and Jalal's story to Salim and Anarkali - what is the point of "Jodha Akbar" then?
