Scars That Must Be Borne
The man can cry. Why should grief occupy an inferior position in the scale of a man's feelings. Jalal more than most seems singled out for sadness as much as happiness. Or maybe it's just that he has no qualms about living life to the fullest and owning every emotion like a human who wants to live and feel it.
His Badi Ammi was perhaps the one closest to him in many ways for so long. Saw him through some of the hairiest scariest times of his boyhood. Such a companion in life's journey cannot be farewelled without mourning. Nothing more or less to this milestone in Akbar's life. The one he loved, the one who betrayed him, who did things to him, his wives and his progeny that he will never know, who killed his unborn children. Jalal has to say goodbye to. Jodha is there to make a way for him to see beyond and make his peace. He will walk through this duty with tears, go past it and not lose his enthusiasm or his verve for tomorrow. All his nearest ones watch him like he has again been wounded with scars that they cannot hope to know. Some even think that these scars will not heal with the passage of time. But if anyone can be optimistic about the future it's Jalal. He will have to keep going, keep walking, whatever he encounters underfoot, however unpalatable. Chief among his hopes is his Jodha Begum and their twins. Need any more be said. But I will say this - life can be cruel and Jalal and Jodha are two people who can look that fact in the face.
anyway, this VM says what I'm trying to say better ... and Divy Magal, don't say I told you so. Music certainly has more power than words.
Jodha Akbar the show has come of age for me. It was while browsing a whole lot of screen captures that I saw the visual quality of the show and the chemistry of JJ came through in every still. I've of course used a bit of tongue in cheek juggling of scenes, people and lyrics, onscreen and off, but have tried to show what I feel about the big picture that the show has painted for me over a year. A salute to all the characters in the show too, although there are too many to include here, alas.
Sapnon Se Bhare Naina seemed like an appropriate song choice for Jalal and Jodha. For me, they are finally one and they are closer to knowing they share the same dream of a future that I wish for them. Hope this makes you smile.
