While watching today's episode, I remembered the earlier tagline of the show, "Kya Jodha Bana Payegi Jalal ko Shaitan se Insaan?" (Something like that...) When this serial started Jalal had a lot of shades to his character. He wasn't a "Prem Chopra" neither was he "Bharat Bhushan". He wasn't black or white. He had lots of shades in between. On the other hands our Jodha was shown to be a feisty princess with lot of good virtues, with stubbornness thrown in the mix. She was supposed to reform (?) him. But then I (like an idiot) always assumed, theirs was to be a journey where both would have to walk together. She too will get influenced by his good qualities.
But I don't know, when it all changed. Our emperor is not so much as changed as white washed. The man has even lost his trademark smirks. He nowadays gives smiles, smiles and only smiles. (for the last few episodes sighs, sighs and only sighs). Well, true, I don't want to see him back in his Jallad mode, but to me it seems weird, if a man says to his wife, "I don't care if you meet a stranger in the middle of the night. What matters to me is only that you lied to me. I can't stand the suspense. Just tell me, who you were meeting with." It might be seen as his trust in her. But can it be construed (oh sorry.. misconstrued) as the "don't care" attitude? I mean, which hero (quite alpha too) worth his salt will be so accommodating?
Most important thing, the intention is not bashing any character here. I'm an equal fan of Jalal and Jodha. Have always liked that little devil hidden in Jalal. And appreciated the feistiness of Jodha, who had guts to tell her husband that "Aap hume rattibhar bhi pasand nahi" (might be rude, but takes some guts to say that to the emperor). I really feel like pouting like a baby saying "I waaant that backkk". Would it be asking too much??
