Prem u just took my one sentence about salim which can be wrong or right ..
.lbut at last u also ended with the same point which I was saying tht this show and specially this track looks utterly idiotic ...this track has no historical proof and what the significance of this track when she actually able to took shah jahan and no one was able to stop it ... Salim may be UN happy but he didn't oppose ...he may be disliked his father for this very reason but he didn't dislike rukayya ... and salim can be helpless due to his father fear and ruku respect but what about Akbar himself ... So we can say many things ...why it happened how it happened but at the end it happened and no body was able to do any thing ...shah jahan lived with rukayya till he could live in imperial harem ... This is historical fact tht nobody dislike her for this reason ... Infact Jahangir and shah jahan were very close to her ... And hence we can't deny her importance in imperial harem and akbr life because she couldn't get such importance without Akbar support
This is just my hypothesis. Usually all women like to be mothers at young age within 40 years old but Ruqaiah adopted Shah jahan when she was in her 50s. So I am sure it was not only about being a mother. If that was so she could have told Akbar to give her Murad or Daniyal if not Salim. But she did not neither did Akbar. So what I feel is since Murad and daniyal were not born for royal mothers may be she did not want to adopt them or that she knew Salim is anyway next emperor. Shah Jahan was only son of Jodha and Jehangir so why adopt him? Why not adopt a Khuusrau or Parvez sons of Salim or why not adopt a son of Murad or Daniyal if you only want to raise a child as mother? Anyways at 50 years how can she bring up such a young child- ok she has maids, daima but the joy of parenthood is running around with baby, doing things for them which requires a lot of physical activity na which Ruqaiah could not afford at that age. So her motive was not only becoming a mother at that age but bringing up a future emperor. And we must not forget this was Mughal custom. Hassan and Hussain were given to different women to be raised, some of Akbar's children were given to other wives and even his mother to raise. So this was custom of that time. Daniyal was given to jodha to raise, murad was given to salima he died because of excessive drinking, salim lived miraculously despite heavy drinking till 57.
Compare to previous generation all male destroying themselves with drink next generation were better. luckily shah jahan, khusrau, shariyar and parvez did not drink to death. Atleast for that we must credit their parents, grandparents for getting it right in next generation. Although shah jahan went over board killing khusrau, shariyar etc but the vices were missing. Yes instead of that it lead to fratricide in this generation. There was absolutely no sense of family, brothers bonding here. May be because they all grew up in different house holds as mentors khusrau in Akbar's, khurram in ruqaiah's, parvez in jehangir's, shariyar's in nur jahan's, so no bonding at all. This generation was similar to Akbar and humayun generation where all brothers were at each others throats.
