Coming to Jhalak…..all the above highlighted masala rather make the Reality show infamous but who cares till 'infamous' contains 'famous' for sure? Obviously a channel or a production house wants to make money and that's why it comes up with new shows and new ideas. Seeing well known public faces dancing on the floor which we do not get to see usually is a real treat. But what starts with a sweet note tend to get bitter and bitter by the end. In our Real lives too, this happens and happens most of the time mostly due to high expectations. But is it necessary to blow these things so much out of proportion? Weren't there any reality shows few years back? There were. But they didn't bear the tag 'Reality Shows' and such things whether if present had their own limitations.
To prove my point of objection let's see what is being done till date…..
Every contestant is nearly made to express their anguish and that too excessively dramatically. Be it for their thought of the marks given/comments made by judges or about other participants (the questions are put forcibly and there is no way not to answer). Family members are questioned less about the performances and more about the issues that are raised.
Pointing out certain things about some of the contestants which I am able to remember…
Mika in general was not up to the mark in comparison to some of the other contestants in most of his performances and people could see it. What was the necessity of pointing it out again and again to him that he survived due to heavy public voting? The show is not only about dancing since they have left the decision in the hands of the public to 'VOTE FOR YOUR FAVORITE CONTESTANT' so dancing plus liking is always there. So what was the point? Either you bring contestants after taking several rounds of audition and not based on popularity or don't comment on the voting in comparison to the performance because you yourself are asking for it.
Jay and Sonali have been reminded again and again that they have become something close to 'Danger Zone' specialist. What has happened in the past why that was recalled every time making the public forcibly think that in every week's performance their chances to be in the Danger Zone was high? In totality the safe and danger zone appearances were adjusted yet the same music of that trend and blah blah…they had to play. Jay was practically made to appear as a victim of low scores or low votes whereas his immense improvement has been subsided while mentioning what he had achieved on the stage. For Sonali, her movie background was put again. When a contestant, they didn't leave her to be a contestant only…..it was put into her thoughts as well as public's thought to think otherwise. Similarly Ronit has been portrayed sometimes as some saint or sometime as an angry man who breaks his silence. Ups or downs..they could have let the issues be there and not making him feel as a definite anti-Ronit going on. What happens is that repeating something over and again takes you to a separate level beyond which one can't look.
Sandhya has been a very good performer, mistakes or no mistakes she has been brought into most debates. It might be her nature to be straight forward but putting arguable issues/questions or giving opportunities like that, be it for the voting system, marks given, comparison to other contestants' performance and the controversies in which she got involved……she would speak. But her speech has been used as something else that has created a separate image in the eyes of the viewer's or judges or other participants. If avoidable things were not raised then her image would have got restricted to being a good performer/dancer only. But no her nature has been misused to a great extent.
Negi has come to limelight with the movie Chak De, utilizing this fact they attracted most of the viewers. Where this one player who has his own remarkable history behind him, him being a sportsman and despite of that giving lovely performances was one of the main attractions. By the end due to the burden of extremely high expectations all that liking vanished? He was made to appear as an unwanted element despite his good efforts and all that good experiences were shadowed by debates over his still being in the contest.
Finally coming to Prachi. She is 19. She plays a Bahu in some serial. Mentioning these things every time is irrelevant. Once or twice that's okay but they never miss the opportunity to highlight that. Forgetting that image of hers she has come to participate as a contestant, not asking for any grace due to her being the junior most or being the actor who plays the character Bani. But they won't let her be herself. Reminding her of her popularity and her unusual achievements in her age again and again and in addition to that that she was brought back by wild card entry, what's the point?
What has happened ultimately that the show has reached to such a stage where whoever wins, lots and lots of arguments, questions will be left behind making the competition appear nothing less than a war which is less of dance but more of words! Somewhere the chances of probable growing friendship among the contestants have been dragged to full stop midway. People tend to remember bad experiences more than good ones and such bitter memories definitely affect the personal lives of all the contestants and even the judges. If such unwanted provocations were not there, if things are not put in such a manner to our mind or to the minds of the contestants, may be the success in going to next rounds or failure to do so would have been easier or more peaceful. A healthy competition is not what Jhalak (or most of the competitions) can be called due to the overtime it does in making the taste bitter from sweeter.
Will be waiting to know your take on it. I hope we don't end up playing the blame game here also. 😉
