Bhopal: "After capturing Point 4875 Mashkoh Valley, jawans were moving forward to capture the ledge. Bunker of Pakistan army was 50metres away. All we could hear was artillery, shelling and guns going off. When suddenly out-of-the-blue we heard a voice say, 'Friend, give us Madhuri Dixit and we'll retreat'."

"We were startled to hear such a thing from a Pakistani soldier, but apart from the tussle for control over Madhuri Dixit, there often were rounds of sheyrs (couplets) exchanged between the Indo-Pak forces during the Kargil war."

Such lesser-known facets of Kargil War were shared by Colonel S Vijay Bhaskar on the occassion of the Kargil Vijay Diwas function held at Ravindra Bhawan.

Some clapped while other chuckled at the candid confessions made during the memorial to remember the valiant soldiers who laid down their lives during the Kargil War.

The 13th anniversary of Kargil victory was celebrated with vigour by Ex-Defence Officers Association, Ex-Services League, Sehore and Bhopal Ex-Services League. A presentation made specially for the Kargil Vijay Diwas was presented by Brigadier R Vinayak and Colonel AK Chaturvedi.
