S ony has asked the production house, DJs Creations, to end Jeete Hain Jiske Liye. It is han- dled by Tony and Deeya Singh. It seems that this decision was taken on the basis of the show's contin- ued dismal ratings. It had stagnat- ed to 0.5 TRPs after two weeks of launch. Jeete Hain..has been adapted from the international telenova La Madarasa. The same concept has had a very good run in various countries abroad. Production hassles It was Tony and Deeya's call to take the story ahead in a linear format. But after seven episodes, it was noticed that the drama was just not picking up. The seventh episode went on air with jumbled scenes. Another episode reached the Singapore office for airing without any sound- track. It seems the team at Singa- pore had to work on the episode before uplinking. The channel was also not informed that the director of the show, Gurudev Bhalla, was removed. Suraj Rao was hired as the creative head, director and edi- tor of the show. This show was in pre-production for almost a year. Still, it had no bank of episodes. The show had reached a stage in which its cre- ative aspects were entirely being handled by Sony. Except confirming the fact that it will go off air on May 17, no one from the channel is willing to comment. Good story, bad execution Renuka Shahane enacts the role of the lead protagonist Anjali in Jeete Hain.. She says, "We've been expecting this but there has been no official communication." Is she okay with the decision? She replies, "No, it's sad when this happens. I enjoyed being a part of the show. But there were many issues. "I've always spoken my mind. I had conveyed my concerns to Tony and Deeya on numerous occasions. I felt that the potential of the script and actors like Ayub Khan, Anoop Soni, Ashwini Kalsekar, Maninee De and Rituraj was not utilised fully. I realised from the fourth day that it was not working." What did the producers have to say? She states, "Maybe, they thought I was irritating or being demanding. It's just that I'm extremely committed. When I leave my two kids at home to work, then I expect creative satisfaction. TRPs don't matter to me. I spoke for the improvement of the show, not for any personal gain." Fragile conditions She says that Tony and Deeya Singh had a different outlook on the show: "I can just conjec- ture..maybe it was a lack of will or stepmotherly treatment on their part. They have failed to handle the multiple tracks in the story- line. It's just that some shows don't work out.'' Shahane admits that working in a daily soap is very demanding: "One can't take leave or fall sick. It takes one actress like Pooja Ghai to mess up the lives of other actors. I worked with duplicates for the first time when Pooja had date issues. In all, I feel it was a very good story but just badly executed." Besides Jeete Hain, the Singhs currently have Jab Love Hua and Left, Right, Left on air. Zee has also asked them to wind up Jab Love Hua (Zee) in a month's time. They are on a holiday in Europe, unavailable for comment. It's likely that Sony will run repeats till another show is ready. Ajay Sinha, Sunjoy Waddhwa and Smriti Z Iraani are in talks with the channel for their new concepts.
