Serials killer

Flop show: A still from Jeete Hain Jiske Liye
Contrary to popular perception, couch potatoes do demand quality, and shows must deliver to keep them glued. After the dismal TRPs garnered by Sony shows, all launched with much fanfare recently, Kaajjal Sabbki Aankhon Mein Basi, Durgesh Nandinii and Jeete Hain Jiske Liye (JHJL), the channel has decided to scrap them.

A highly placed source in the channel says, "Sony has already given an ultimatum to these shows to wind up within the next 45 days. The top management at Sony has been toying with the idea for quite some time, and a secret meeting held recently sealed the fate of these shows."

Two reasons have been cited for abruptly ending these three serials. Sony's pet scapegoat Sandiip Sikcand, chief creative director, gets the top slot in the blame game. Apparently because of his rivalry with Ekta Kapoor, the channel remained deprived of K-serials. Moreover, the shows that Sony introduced under directive from Sandiip have been performing very badly. As a corrective measure, Sandiip has already been shown the door. The second reason is the dismal TRPs that the shows have registered. TRPs of Renuka Shahane starrer JHJL have touched rock bottom with TVR less than one. Following closely are Kaajjal and Durgesh Nandinii.

Well, what does Sandiip Sikcand have to say about it? "This is not at all true. I have nothing to say beyond that," he says.

It seems that the producers of the show have not been informed yet. When contacted, all the producers denied this development. Kaacon Sethi, executive producer of Kaajjal said, "This is not true. I can't believe that our show is going off-air." Sanjala Dewan, supervising producer of Durgesh Nandinii echoed the same, "We have not been informed by the channel regarding this development. I have nothing to say beyond that." Tony Singh, producer of Jeete Hain Jiske Liye refused to believe us too and said, "It's for the channel to decide what they want to do with the shows. I can't comment on the working of a channel."
