| NEW DELHI/MUMBAI: In a move that can have significant consequences, Sony Entertainment TV (SET) has sold a slot to a private producer. The Hindi general entertainment channel is also open to the idea of selling non prime time slots to other producers. Says SET EVP and business head Albert Almeida, "This is the first time we have done such a deal. We are getting content at no cost and we will share the revenues. We are open to such concepts and to innovative ways of sourcing content that viewers want." Aum Sportainment has taken the morning slot on Sony TV to telecast the spiritual show Shirdi ke Sai Baba-Sache Bhakton ki sachi kahaniyan. "We are paying Sony TV for the slot and are also sharing the revenues from the commercials," says Aum Sportainment managing director Aushim Khetrapal. He, however, refuses to divulge further commercial details of the deal. Sun TV and Doordarshan are the only other broadcasters who have followed this "slot selling" model, though the pubcaster has increasingly moved away from it to the "Self Finance Scheme" where it commissions shows. |
