I was watching today's episode of JJKN (in USA) and it was the episode where Jassi wanted to go to the movies with Viran, but Billo didn't wanted her to go....After watching it I was thinking, could Jassi's nerdy turnabout have anything to do with her upbringing...

Do you guys think that Jassi would have turned out differently if Billu wasn't so strict on raising her? It was pretty clear after her conversation with Amrit that growing up she really didn't do anything against her parents will. She did exactly what she was told. Do you think she still would have turned out to be a nerd if her parents were a lot more laid back?

BTW....If any of you forgot....Happy August 5thšŸ˜‰šŸ˜†

and as for aug 5th ya i remember
katiyal and jassi both got bashed

i thik i shud look up for that thread

and as for upbringing
no i dont think jassi was a nerd
yaar ana i was also brought up that way
strict upbringing
never allowed to interact with guys
never allowed to go to any parties
only girls were allowed in my house
my dad was very very strict
i m not a nerd now
i may not have done my full education but circumstances made me learn a lot
waqt and haalat sab kuch seekha dete hain
i came out of closet and learnt a lot after goin thru some difficult times
likewise jassi she had her wishes but she never disobeyed her parents
so i think her upbringing has nothin to do with her nerdiness
she was simple down to earth and true to herself kind of a gal
and every female identified with her at any given stage
thas wht made jassi special isnt it

Wow Ana...you coem here so rarely 😭 but whatever you say carries a lot of weight.

I agree to some extent that Billu's upbringing was in some way responsible for Jassi's awkwardness and lack of confidence. We have always seen Billu be very very protective of Jassi, and somewhere this might have inhibited her.

But there is another angle to this. If you have seen the episodes after Jassi discovers Raj's letter and relates all her past hurts and humiliations before Nandu, you will know that society at large had been very unkind to Jassi. The sole reason was her looks. People did not take the trouble to know the beautiful person behind the unbecoming exterior. So jassi never had any real friends beside Nandu. That was the reason why her family, esp Billu, were so protective about her. Billu firmly believed that his daughter was special (which she was! šŸ˜› ) and tried continually to boost up her self-confidence by calling her his Queen Victoria. 😊

His aim was to save Jassi from being further attacked by a callous world but at some level, Jassi might at times have resented this smothering watchfulness. But it never lasted long because more than his pride and more than his beliefs even, it was Jassi whom he held dear. He would have given his life for her. And jassi was fully aware of this. That is why she never wanted to hurt him.

Very well put! I had the same scrict upbringing and couldn't ever go anywhere or do anything, but I don't think that necessarily shapes a person to be more or less nerdy. Completely in compliance with you on this one! :)

hey i think ana i wud like to add more here and i m surprised why no one else responded to ur post which was very thoughtful
i m sure when every gal identifed herself with jassi at any stage ppl shud hv replied

let me tell u one more thing
jassi was a character not a real person
so her nerdiness was goin to go anyways
but in reality things r different

i wud tell u my experience here more
as i said my dad was very protective of us and see iwas and am still plain jane and chashmish with 2chotis earlier now well i have shoulder length hair
hahaa
my dad never allowed us enough freedom to grow up and be able to take our own decisions and still he does that after so many years
if my dad had given me confidence to do any work perhaps i wud hv pulled thru much earlier
i was too shy to speak my mind or my feelings
like blyti said na society at large was not kind to jassi
like wise here society was good to me but stil i used to get inferiorty complex abt my looks
i wanted to look better and different and more confident of talkin to ppl

but well it took me time and i m old fashioned in lot of ways but at times i can tackle situations

now situation has turned to my kids
i realised it yday i was doin the same thing which my dad did with me
protect my kids all the time
not allow them to go out with freinds and ask them to come on time
and also not givin enough trust to their judgement
times hv changed
i realise it now
i guess if jassi dad had kept some faith in his daughter or trusted her intelligence and ability to come out of tight situation she wont hv remained like that
but at some stage she did all that thats why she was always her fathers queen victoria

i guess i bored everyone here now šŸ˜†

I feel that Billoo might be responsible to some extent for Jassi's nerdiness. My father was also quite strict in some ways. When I was in high school and wanted to try out different hairstyles and be a little "fashionable" I used to get a royal scolding from him. According to him simplicity was the biggest virtue. šŸ˜•

i truly think its billo's fault.. His earlier character was very very in accordance with a normal middle class Indian accountant... that over-protective strict nature is responible for his daughter being part of a bubble...and the outer world would burst that bubble everytime she stepped out of that house... i have seen many many girls like that living in a strict househeld and being labelled names after stepping out of their house(though not as geekish as jassi which was done purely to attract the audience) . this overstrictness is crazy but its true.. i was part of a similar household too.. not as strict as the walias but pretty close.

It was his character after the makeover that was butchered.... an overnight change where he allowed his daughter to fly countries, dress in any dress she chose to, stay with unmarried men alone...with no proper justification for why his character changed like that overnight.. (so what if he felt guilty for what he did to his daughter) doesnt mean anyone's principles would change like that..

and yes i do think billo is responsible for jassi being so nerdish.. a lot of people were.. and billo is surely one of them! 😊

I agree with lashy,I feel that billo is in some way responsible for jassi's upbringing and nerdiness and he was partly responsible for the post-makeover problems that she had.

parents being strict and laying down rules is fine to an extent but too much over strictness and being too harsh def takes a toll on the kids and it affects their confidence level for sure .

Jassi was never exposed to the outer world bcoz of her fathers over-protectiveness and this did affect her . yes,I do agree that billo didnt want anyone to make her jassi sad coz he thought there was no place for gals like her in the big bad world but that itself in someway was responsible for her nerdiness

post-makeover,he always justified jassi's actions even when she was wrong in running away and creating so much pain and shame to her parents . He also didnt try to stop her and infact justified her action once again when she was pregnant and when she was stressing herself out

I think overall Billo was partly responsible for her problems not in a direct way coz he wanted only good for his daughter but his actions somehow did affect her
