On screen, she comes across as a very pious lady and ardent follower of rituals and traditions. But in real life, Shilpa Saklani aka Ganga, subscribes to a different belief. Quiet pragmatic about her life and notions, she does not go overboard when it comes to religion. Sameera Kapoor chats up with this modern-day woman where she speaks her mind......and soul. Do you believe in God? Yes I do. But my equation with Him is not profound. It's how normally people seek him in daily life. Like before stepping out of the house I pray that He guides me to choose the right path and may everyone around me be blessed. I am not religious, however, I do feel his presence in my life. Any incident that made you doubt His existence? When I lost my father, I did think on those lines. My father had suffered a lot and I was disillusioned when God took him away. I was very young when all this happened, maybe that's the reason why I lost faith in Him. However, today I believe that everything happens for a reason. Destiny rules. Do you visit temples, ask for a mannat....? No. I believe that one need not visit any special place for fulfillment of any wish or purpose. As I believe in destiny, whatever has to happen will happen, and nobody can stop it. I live for the day. I do not like to clutter my mind with the thoughts of any impending danger or what will happen in the coming years. | "what is to happen will happen and nobody can stop it..." | Did you wish for anything special and it was granted? We are humans and it's natural that we keep asking for one thing or the other. Once our wish is fulfilled it either goes unnoticed or we don't value it. I do not ask anything special as I believe in karma. What I'm destined to get cannot be denied by anyone or stopped by any force. Then how do you deal the negative aspects in your life? I take depression and sorrows as a part of life. You got to deal with it. Not everyday is a sunny day. Besides, to value the good things of life, it is a must that we get a taste of the bad. Else how will we appreciate the brighter side of life.
What about occult sciences? No ologies (numerology and astrology) for me. My house has been done by me which has nothing to do with feng shui or vaastu. Till date I have not resorted to changing my name spell. However I don't condemn those who do practice such things. According to me all this is a simply a state of mind. It is like the saying 'doobte hua ko ek tinka bhi kafi hai'. Who knows, if in future, I'm struck with adversity and bad times, then I too might end up doing the same. |
