Hmmm.....it seems Mona's latest interview-"I am tired of playing Jassi" has raised quite a few hackles here. Well, i was quite disturbed about the whole issue, but this topic of JJKN ending has been pursued for a long time now, and we need to look at it from all aspects.
At times this post may seem like a piece in defence of Mona--so be it. As a tree-huggie, if i feel that she has been unjustly criticised, i have the right to put forth my rebuttal. Nobody should take it personally.
I think her int has raised the following questions--
1. WHY DOES MONA WANT JJKN TO END?
Maybe she's annoyed becoz all the JandA romance gets edited out these days and she hardly gets any chance to romance Apu on screen!
On a serious note, i think it is just sheer physical and emotional exhaustion that is making Mona talk like this. At some time or other, each one of us feels that our job sucks, and thinks of quitting. Because Mona is a star, this becomes news in her case.
JJKN has gone thru a lot of twists and, honestly speaking, though it is WAY better than other shows, it is just a shadow of its former self. As viwers, we want the show to continue forever--i know I do--but it can't be creatively fulfilling anymore for the actors.Put yourself in their shoes and see.
Besides, Mona has said earlier that she wants the show to end nicely so that people miss it. There is nothing wrong with that...in fact it shows how concerned she is about the show's image---she would rather risk losing her main source of income than have it drag along and lose all its remaining fans.
Kekta's actors don't say a word against her shows becoz they know that if she chucks them out, no one will take them. Mona can afford to speak her mind, because she is a star in her own right. Like Rajeev Khandelwal who, much as i hate to admit it, is hugely popular even after leaving KTH, and it is now the show that is floundering. As for TnD, i don't think they care about JJKN much themselves, seeing the way they have let their actors go for sheer lack of payment.
I suspect that the real reason for Mona's disgruntlement is not JJKN per se, but the contract with Sony that makes it impossible for her to accept offers from other channels (and i'm sure she must be getting quite a few)--which means she is losing out on good opportunities. I know I would be dissatisfied with my job if i were in the same position.
But this much i feel--though Mona thinks that the show is no longer fulfilling for her, she will miss it sorely some months down the line--her costars especially (Apu!)
2. WHY ARE WE SO DISAPPOINTED?
I think that is because we all knew that JJKN has to end sometime, but us despo JandA/MandA besharams were still hoping against hope that the serial wud get another extension. But if mona says she wants it to end, then no power on earth can stretch it beyond May 2006.
And if they continue without Mona, the show would be simply pathetic. I DEFINITELY would not watch it--not even for Apu. I can't stand to see him romancing anyone but Mona on screen. I could not even bear to watch SandA on NB𤢠so how can i ever see Aamna Sharif or Neha bamb opposite Apu?
3. WHAT WILL MANDA DO AFTER JJKN?
As regards AA, i just hope he gets something like Parmeet's D.O.N.: which would give him a chance to showcase his skills. I just hope he does not end up doing a balaji serial! I think it is the right time for Apu to make his directorial debut. Who knows, he may make it really big one day.
And Mona will surely get some good offers. I don't care whether she does Bollywood or not. frankly, i'm losing respect for mainstream Hindi cinema by the day. Except for rani, Preity and Sush, no film actress is doing anything even remotely worth mentioning. I would rather see Mona do an occasional offbeat film and stick mainly to TV--and she has said so many times that she will not quit TV,which is being sensible.
And please, Mona does NOT keep harping about her film. When they asked her on KKH#43 about whether she was doing films, she just said "yes" and left it at that. If she had wanted , she could have gone on and on.
But if the journalist asks her about it, she cannot keep mum. Just go through any of her chats or the qs that were posted for her IF interview--at any given time, there are about 5464537 people wanting to know about her film plans, and she HAS to answer them.
Another thing--Mona has NEVER said that Abhishek bachchan is cast opposite her in Main Toh Chala. It is the media which blew this whole specualtion out of proportion. I really don't care if he is in the film or not--i would have loved AA to be her hero (doesn't anyone have Bobby Pushkarna's email address? We can flood him with requests to cast AA in his film) but since that is not happening, i would not mind even Atul Kulkarni or Irfaan khan, since this is an offbeat film. If Rituparna Sengupta, the superstar of bengali films can work opposite rajpal yadav in "Main, meri Patni..", why can't Mona, the superstar of TV work opposite these very talented actors?
But of course, it would be a dream come true if MandA are cast in a film or serial together. Kaaash....<sigh>
Anyway, i think Mona should have her own chat show on TV--something on the lines of "Koffee with Karan", but more in keeping with her "middle-class" image. How about "LASSI WITH JASSI?"đ
4. WHAT WILL WE BESHARAMS DO AFTER JJKN?
I will be serial-less, pathetically. There is no other show i've ever been so bonkers over. I just hope Sony puts the reruns of JJKN, like with YMLH and Kkusum. that will keep me going for the next 2.5 years , after which i will have hopefully found my own "Armaan". But i will MISS this show like anything...........
So the question remains--should JJKN end or not?
NO, for the sake of us viewers.
YES, for the sake of its actors' sanity. đ
I think the best idea would be, as Tina suggested, to end it now and come back after some time with a second season. They can even go the "Kutumb" way--end this story and start a new one with the same characters. After all, as far as we are concerned, JJKN means JandA, right? As long as we get our daily dose , we have no complaints.đ
