The chilly breeze, warmth of its people, scenic beauty and her father! To the world it was a beautiful and one of the most popular tourist destinations but to her it was her home. The Queen of Hills, oh how she missed Shimla!
The loud voice of the lecturer brought her back to the present and she with great sincerity tried to pay attention. Pangs of loneliness hit her as her body drowned in sadness. She din't like this place much. Everything here was too huge and extremely crowded. There was no fresh air to breathe, there were buildings all around. She found the people and even her college campus intimdating! The very minute she set her foot in she realized that she was a complete misfit here but now there was no looking back, it was her father's dream!
Her eyes flew to the notebook of the guy sitting next to her. Arnav, it read. She liked the name in an instant but sadly she couldn't say that about him as a person for from the time she had seated herself next to him because that was the only empty place she found not once had he glanced at her forget a hello or hi ! It was like he din't give a damn so be it! This had transported her back to her first day at school where Payal who was now her best friend had talked nine to a dozen and made the cranky Khushi smile and forget her tears.
She heard him furiously type away on his phone and that very minute Mrs. Sharma the professor sensed that Arnav's attention was elsewhere and she began walking in their direction. Khushi immediately sensed trouble and kicked his foot to get his attention.
"What the." He furiously muttered and looked up at her.
Khushi felt a wave of breathlessness hit her as she was bestowed with the most beautiful pair of eyes she'd ever come across! Honey gold she mentally noted.
"Is there something that is distracting you Arnav?" Mrs. Sharma halted next to their seat and questioned him.
"Nothing." He said as though he'd made a favour to her by even uttering that one word.
Mrs. Sharma gave him that final-warning-look and continued with her lecture.
She felt irritation course through her veins. How high handed one could be? She had helped by alerting him and he hadn't even uttered a small and simple thank you.
As soon as the class got over she immediately packed her stuff and headed out she was dying of hunger!
Suddenly she felt someone bang into her from behind as her bag and books fell off to the ground.
"I am so sorry. I din't see you. Here let me help you." The pretty girl said and helped her pick up her stuff.
"Its alright." Khushi smiled back.
After having picked up the stuff the girl questioned "You are new here?"
"Yes." Khushi replied mildly surprised.
Sensing her confusion the girl immediately said "You look a little lost that is how I guessed." She gave her a warm and welcoming smile which acted like a comforting balm to Khushi's loneliness.
"Hey, those are really pretty jhumkas your wearing." The girl said beaming at her as her eyes trailed down her form which made Khushi a little uncomfortable.
"You are pretty." The girl said liked she'd found a piece of treasure and Khushi had never felt this awkward in her life before! No one hell she herself had never dared call herself beautiful let alone others. Eyeing her Red kurti and jeans again she murmered a fake thankyou to the girl just for the sake of it.
"Oh by the way, I'm Anjali." She finally introduced herself her hand stretched out.
"Khushi Kumari Gupta." Khushi graciously shook her hand. She liked Anjali she knew and that somehow made the hatred for this place lessen a bit.
This was the sight which greeted Arnav Singh Raizada, Anjali shaking hands with that new girl.
He walked towards them and pulled out a bunch of keys from his pocket and thrust it under Anjali's nose. Her face broke into a smile as she took hold of the keys and mumbled "See ya later." To which he nodded and left.
This little exchange had left Khushi utterly confused!
"You know him?" She genuinely voiced out.
Anjali looked at her with an obvious smile "He is my brother."
Shocked would be an understatement! Khushi for the life of her couldn't believe this. How could these two be siblings? They were poles apart here Anjali was so nice and he was a complete opposite of her. Akdu' she thought. And then the little relief which she had felt on meeting Anjali had changed into uneasiness. She hoped and prayed in her head that her life here in Mumbai if not complete smooth but would atleast be bearable she thought!
That night a certain pair of honey gold eyes kept haunting her!
