i have no way of proving a thing... just how i feel about things. i know it's all about money, so it shouldn't bother me. sp's action did not. expected, in a way. ph's did. because maybe i feel creators should have more emotion. i am clearly a fool to think so.
barun. i have never met him, nor has he ever confided in me. i have seen him act, heard him in off screen things. something about him i personally connect to... goes beyond his good looks. no idea why, he feels real. himself, no act, no game, bold, very stubborn, wants to do things his own way, not always smart, immensely talented. if i take the last one out... something of me in the rest of the stuff. i guess that's why i connect... and trust. if an actor wants to leave a show once his contract is done, it is up to him. producers can sort out things if they wish to... i do believe between channel and production house a mess was created. if ipk had not succeeded, it would have been fine for the lead to leave in feb or maybe lose his job before that, but if it's done well then he must give up all personal ambition, and keep on doing this job, watch his character being ruined, the story go nowhere... yet stick around. i wouldn't do that. i don't expect him to.
also till the end he has said all he wanted was a break. i choose to believe him.
but all that is over now. i just feel happy to have ipk to come back to every day. and all of you.
and in this i agree with sohara, no matter what i may think of the producers' ways, and however much it hurts me to see certain things, i am grateful to everyone who made ipk and also to the executive at star india who suggested it should be moved to star plus instead of their youth channel.

My two bits. For me, the issue is not what happened last year, not anymore. I am simply appalled by the pictures coming out in rapid succession after Ek Baar Phir was announced. Business...we all know how that works, and rules. But i'm proud to say that i survive it...many many of us do am sure. We negotiate with it everyday and find ways of slipping in our voices wherever possible. We have to... otherwise is there a point to anything?
The production house, sure it's their right to flaunt their creation. I've been visiting their forum every once in a while in the last six months just to see if they had put out anything...oh anything...even a sentence...about IPK. Never anything. Tons of Qubool Hai. And i thought these guys are terribly hurt, maybe, with how things panned out, and so they're trying to put it behind them and start afresh. I even watched QH cos i wanted the connection so badly. And realized almost instantaneously that they had not moved on. Ok, i thought. This is business. And this is their formula for-moolah.
But now, nostalgia sets in. Coincidence in the timing? Me not buying that for a second. For me, i only sense crude manipulative action. None of them had expected the wave that swept over and past them last year... the channel, the ph, and the actors, they were all unprepared for the mass hysteria...forget them, many of us lovers of the show were surprised at the impact the hysteria had!
The channel, they are now prepared. Systems in place for such casualties. The actors, they're all dealing with it in their own ways...and it actually says a lot about who they are as people if you look at each one closely. But the ph...it now finds the time to be nostalgic...and lets make them lovers of the show nostalgic, show them what they've been missing all this while... Not really realizing the depths of our love for their creation. Not realizing that it never really left us in the first place. So from where they see it, my sense is that they hope to seduce us into some kind of reaction, hopefully a negative one, towards the new creation. Most of us, we'll just enjoy the new pictures, incorporate them into collective memory of the beloved show and move forward (to the next blast episode, hopefully!)...but there are many others who may get carried away and lash out once more. At least that's what seems to be the vision behind the nostalgia.
Indian TV and it's marketing may not be as sophisticated as it is in the West but power politics and business strategies, they are everywhere cos those are human traits. But that doesn't make them always right and acceptable. May be so, for those in the game, but for us the audience, the consumer...we don't need to always buy in... And even if we do, we need to be aware of what is at play. That's all.
IPK, it was a home run. Many contributors, but it was more than that. Sometimes it just is. Universe conspiring and all. That's when one needs to go all out. Speak, shout, protect and save what has become vastly bigger than what you started out with. Cos more than your creation, it is then your responsibility. But you let it rot for months...cos you thought that was business...and then eventually just praised the channel executives for their support in interviews, saved yourself, and moved on to fresh starts...letting the others in the fray deal with the casualties. So why speak up now?
