I think this scene is importsant for another reason. Arnav was finally realising what he felt for khushi

Earlier he hadnt given much thought to his impending engagement with La which he had declared in the heat of the moment. Perhaps he never knew he could such have feelings for any girl. But when he realised khushi was always in his thoughts, he knew he couldn't go ahead with his engagement to LA.

Mind you, he dint know of khushi's broken engagement yet. To him khushi was still engaged.

Yet he was honest in his lack of feeling for la and was honest with her.

The sript writers did a great job in bringing out this honesty and itegrity of arnav's character.
