but it is revealed that they don't...

So the only explanation i can come up is that she married Shashi when Payal herself was a bit older and soon after they adopted Khushi too...

PS: just cz SP site got an insignificant info like a name wrong doesn't mean they'll by default get such an important point of the plot wrong too!!!

But just because one hidden meaning in a dialogue you cannot assume Garima to be Payal's step mom. If it really was the case that garima is shashi's second wife then the CVs would've given at least one clear dialogue which confirms it.
