really why cuz I don't know... does it give them money?
If it doesn't then I dont see any reason for making changes in the show for the the sake of TRPs! So what if their show is not getting enough viewers? Would star plus end the show if they don't?
This is what wiki says: The TRP measure helps advertisers decide which TV channels and programmes to place their advertising in.
umm with the really high TRPs, i barely see star plus advertising the show so does it really make a difference if the TRPs drop?
Would anyone care to explain what the disadvantages are for low TRPs?

I'm not sure but this is my theory:

star plus makes money depending on how many viewers it has. this is because if it has more viewers (TRP), than it can have more advertisements from companies or maybe if it has a higher TRP than companies will pay more to have their adverts in that particular time slot.

therefore, if the TRPs are really low then SP do not make as much money.

Also, not to mention that if a serial is good, then more and more people get hooked on it so more people pay to watch SP. i dont know about india, but here in the UK you pay for each channel separately so if it has a good show (which is reflected by TRP) then it would have more people paying to watch their channel.

Yes it does. The cost of time slot depends on the TRP's. A high TRP rated show will get more demand for advertising and sponsorships, they cannot increase the time of ads, cost would definitely increase

^ - directly proportional

demand for advertising ^ viewership ; viewership ^ TRP ;
so demand ^ TRP
demand ^ cost
so cost of advertising ^ TRP

It's hard to explain or understand the whole TRP dynamics, but yes, shows do get axed because of low trps.

A channel is closing down because it's shows are not getting enough trps.

At this moment. IPK is not in danger but if the trps get lower you never know. After all it's business.

What I learnt in a Media Advertising class in college here is that, In a nutshell, the higher the TRP or ranking of a show, advertisers pay premium. In the end its all about revenue for the channel through sponsors and advertisers. So I think a show can get pulled off air for continued low TRP's. I think these popular channels have many shows waiting in line for air time. So I don't think CV's can afford to disregard these facts indefinitely. THis is the main concept as I've understood it. Not sure if there are other dynamics in India.
