AAAHH... Thanks...that kinda makes sense! This thing's been bugging me since I saw the epi. Even if I want to believe #3, even then the mirror expression does not make sense, unless Anjali has superb brainwashing skills. So here was our ASR thinking he used #2, then his Di actually convinces him that he did it because of #3!!! What I mean is, he looked stumped at the end there, like he just realized that he cares for her. If this is the case, then what was he thinking when he decided to lie to Khushi? If he did it for #3, then why look so surprised if Di stated the obvious?
Polly, my take on that was that he did the reverse fake to protect her --- he luuurves her so much, but he wasn't introspective about it. It took Anjali's holding up of the mirror to show him that in his head and heart Khushi is now on par with Anjali (or getting there ...!) and that surprises him. But that final look in the mirror seemed like he's comes to terms with that. Also his rabba ve-ing himself worked a lot better than some recently with Khushi 😆 .
As for why this character flip, I think that's for the trust game --- I love her so much that I can commit hara kiri on my character in her eyes in order to spare her pain... but that means her trust quotient drops precipitously!
