Aviation, you have raised good points. By the way, every time Astha opens her mouth wide, I am getting reminded me of you... no wonder I was hiccuping this morning. 😆... She is improving, but needs to improve in her scenes with Avinash as eventually it will turn into a love story. For now it is working because they are showing no attraction on their part whatsoever... again I don't know if this is an unintended consequence or by design... As you mentioned, she is like a fly for Shlok whom he wants to swat. .. I can imagine Shlok just flicking her off his coat sleeves one of these days while she is opening & closing her mouth like a landed fish...
I do think that they are showing Astha not as a perfect girl, but a pampered girl who has been spoilt both by parents and grandmother. In fact, grandmother encourages her and was siding with her against the mother. I was ok with her mom allowing her to leave with the mess on the floor because they are showing as the one who doesn't like to do any housework and is messy... but the least was to call her to clean up... of course mom can shake her head when Astha ignores her runs off.. just finish up the scene.. Her parents/grandmother are quite indulgent towards her... too true it is time someone administered some paddling.. I am just concerned that the writers are trying too hard to show her sympathetic while it is coming off as quite the opposite...
Shlok is being shown as this dark character who will be shown to go too far to protect his father's reputation (even if at somebody's extent). But they are also showing vulnerability to viewers to make him a sympathetic character. So they are showing his tormented soul. Avinash is of course excellent in showing vulnerability. So instead of coming as a totally dark character who would be redeemed by a good girl, they are showing him as somebody who is a product of his environment and past. So it has been clever how they have shown him... yes, I totally agree.. as the earlier version.. this is a dark character.. so far the only redeeming factor is his love & regard for his father.. while his achellis heel is overboard misogynist tendencies .. Shlok is indeed being played finely by his parents... he is a product of the dysfunctional environment...
I agree that Astha is not coming across as goody two shoes who is out to do good to the world. She is coming across as somebody who has a huge ego and cannot accept the fact that somebody is able to ignore her. That her rejections/disapprovals do not mean a single thing to Shlok. I am liking how they are showing her because I am tired of seeing these perfect heroines. She is quite flawed herself. I hope that down the road, they don't put all the blame on Shlok and make his lily white character. So evolution in Shlok should be along with evolution of Astha. Spheres Origin usually show faults of female characters too and so I am hoping that this characterization is intentional... I too hope they show the growth & maturity in each of these characters as they are thrown together time & again.. as they clash.. hopefully each will take away a piece of other's character...
And you are right about the precap. Astha is too presumptuous and anybody would want to close her mouth to get some peace. 😆
Finally, Shlok with his family scenes are so interesting because of actors and details they show in these scenes. First of all three are well matched in height and physique. As Myra pointed out, brother wears this grey suit and Niranjan a mixture of grey and black. Shlok either strides with Niranjan or follows him closely. Varad is with them but follows them at a distance. There is always exchange of glances between brothers either when some outsider is there (SIL) or father says something. So brothers do look at each other for advice. Niranjan and Anjali look at each other whenever they need something to be done. So this silent communication between the members of the family is quite interesting. Misti had pointed out glances between Sojal and Vinayak (Niranjan's brother) at news of SIL's arrival. So there are lot of dynamics that are very interesting. Today was interesting because no blood relative asked about Jyoti (Shlok and Varad's sister). It was Sojal who enquired about her.
So to me this is story of Shlok where his family holds the center court. The love story between Astha and Shlok is a corollary to this story rather than the main story at this point even though Shlok and Astha have daily scenes between them... I kind of feel of weird that I find the family scenes more interesting than a non-existent "love" but truly hate story.. even though the show starts with the duo & pre-caps are about the duo...
I have to say that CVs are doing a great job of giving adequate screen space to all characters. I am getting interested in Niranjan/Anjali and Varad/Sojal story too along with their relationship with Shlok... unfortunately for the CVs.. the title is Iss Pyaar ko... or the earlier title Astha... it should have been Iss Parivar Ko... the audience is getting interested in the sideshow more than mainshow... at least in my case.. I re-watch the family interactions (esp. Agninotri).. and almost tempted to forward the lead scenes.. but just stop myself to watch Avi 😉...
