I understand what you are saying. I was rewatching some old IB episodes and I loved the Annika who fought for her self respect and honor.
My favorite dialogues of hers is

"..hote honge unke last word, lekin full stop mein lagati hoon" 👍🏼

"aapka Oberoi khandaan mein paida hona aapki mehnat nahi hai balki lottery hai. Tukka. Phir thadi kiss baat ki hai aapko?" 😎

The Annika from Season 1 had different personality traits: loud, simple, blunt, khidkitod. This suited the Shivaay from Season 1.

But,

The Annika here is quieter. She may not have some tashan dialogues, but she still has fight in her. It took me a few episodes to see, but her instant go-to when she is angry is not to show it, but to channel it into her work and her care for her siblings. (like when she was making dosa in the rain) We probably won't get to see the Annika who openly challenged people, but I think she is still within this new one. Especially in today's episode when she was fighting Daksh and when she warned her Chachi about telling Gauri about her mom's secret affair.
Maybe when she interacts with SSO a lot more, she might learn to give back with words, but right now, I am liking the quiet actions that show that she not one to take shit. (the phone fixing scene from today's episode).
Also, I think that this characterization of Annika is what suits the current SSO. He is so caught up in misery and hatred for everything around him. Maybe seeing someone who constantly picks herself up after every mishap instead of breaking things and throwing attitude is what he needs to come to terms with reality.
I like the freshness of this new love story and NM-SC are doing a fab job of creating a new dimension to Shivaay-Annika's chemistry. I just want to say that be patient when it comes to Annika. She still has the fire, but it just needs the right situations to come out!

Peace!

I agree. I have only seen Gauri and Annika scenes, so my views are based on that.

I think Annika's basic characterization is same, but this time she is more mature and dignified, not loud and spunky.

Mostly, I'm glad that Surbhi is getting to play a nuanced version of Annika, which is giving her a chance to explore her talent. As an actress she is getting to hone her talent.

I respect your feelings but the thing is Anika is more mature in her approach now. In case you have read Harneets IV with Pinkvilla, she clearly mentioned Anika won't be that interfering in shivaays matters this time. So she isn't loud and spunky. She indeed is khidkitod n takkar ki with the SSO but with a lot more maturity. She has more responsibility on her, that is of Gauri. She still fights back just like with chachi when she threw garam kadhai when chachi taunted her for serving whole food to Gauri, or when in hospital Shivaay unnecessarily taunted her she gave back to him. Even yesterday when Daksh tried to molest her, she fought back and tried to save her. She was shakened with the incident but was alert to find the culprit. The only difference is she isn't that instant in her response. She maturely understands the situation and then gives it back. Well she is more quiet right now bcoz some or the other person keeps taunting her, especially chachi on her mother's actions. This disturbs her and the thought that she wants Gauri to be protected from all this crap. That's why settling down with Nikhil, even though she doesn't love him or know what love is, is her way of going forward after being a good Wedding Planner and successfully earning money to feed her family. Anika will be more khidkitod, just wait and watch.

But I really wish they would ease down on the amount of suffering they put Anika through in the show. Earlier, we had a lively Anika who had her funny moments to break the depression. What about this Anika?
