I had posted this on Lakshmi di's thread, but on popular demand making a post on main forum. š¤ Bashers can stay away. š
This is my Analysis on Omkara, the dark horse of the Oberoi family.
He for me, is the most complex character of IB and its always fascinating (for me) to figure out his feelings. š³
Om is like the Sea. Calm and Serene, but to measure its depth, you have to drown in it. His anger though less frequent is like a Tidal wave, destructive and devastating. The wave, like his anger only erupts when the planes rooted deep in the sea are disturbed. Om won't get angry on any superficial things/occurrences/events. He might get irritated or irked but not angry. Thats Shivaay. He is the Fire. One just have to 'rub' him the wrong way to ignite his Anger. Om needs to be shaken from inside for him to show his wrath.
Om is sensitive, feels everything little too much, who tries to be strong for his brothers, who hides his pain and smiles for them, who along with shivaay shielded Ru and prinku and probably grew up, grew old a lil earlier being the parental figure to them. To understand him, you have to look beyond the surface, look beyond the horizon for his emotions and actions doesnt always match.
There are possibly only three people whom he trusts. His brothers and his Anika Bhabhi. And when he trusts, he trusts with his all. No amount of evidence, no external influence, no circumstances, not even if they say otherwise will shake that trust. Recent example being Anika's behaviour before separation. He dint believe anika's weird behavior when her husband did. Why? Thats how he is. There is no half way with Om. Either he trusts or he doesn't. He was once quick to trust, but getting repeatedly deceived by life has shaken his whole belief system.
Om, the Brother : Om as a brother is so different yet so similar to Shivaay.. Be it Hiding the 'Truth' about the Accident to protect prinku, or agreeing to be called illegitimate in front of all to protect shivaay's pride , his ways of being there for his siblings are often subtle and usually go unnoticed. (sad though coz he is as protective as his elder brother) The Om for whom Truth matters the most was defeated by the Brother in him when he chose to hide the Truth for his sister. The weight of that guilt was so heavy that he was pushed into drugs.
Om once said to his father Tej 'Zindagi agar race hai toh ye race Mein apne bhai ko jeetane ke liye daudoonga' ...! This line sums up Omkara as a brother to me. Shivaay will run & win the race &/to dedicate the win to his brothers. Om will run to make his brothers win! (You get the meaning?)
It would be interesting to watch Om come out of his Comfort Zone, his reverse journey 'back' to love. Though keeping my hopes minimum. [Because, Harneet]

Om, The Son : As a Son, he got the most shittiest (pardon my language) parents a child could get. If nothing else, IB had taught me What a Parent SHOULDNT do. The four senior oberois are the best examples of the worst parents. He saw his father openly flaunt his extra marital affair with his mistress, he witnessed his weak pitiful mother's suicide attempt coz of this and the commitment phobic Om decides to marry his father's mistress to save his parents' marriage, hardening his heart in the process. Thats who he is. For love, Om does the things which he doesn't want to do. Never wished to do. Be it telling lies for his loved ones or agreeing to marry his father's mistress, the woman he hates the most, to save his parents marriage. Ironically, he believes in love and marriages and wants and pushes his brothers towards it but doesn't believe that it is out there for himself. He considers himself too broken for perfect love and marriages. (Oh,Om!)
Then he meets Gauri Kumaari Sarma.
He sees her dancing around a certain lascivious Thakur, watches them in each other's arms, witnesses the thakur' first wife Jhanvi (Aren't you cruel, Harneet?) commit suicide in the exact same way his mother attempted and believes the worst of Gauri. Believes her to be Svetlana part 2. Hating her with a vehemence that shocked GKS..
He might've hardened his heart but his conscience and humanity remained intact. It pushed him to marry gauri, the woman he hates to save her.
Om, The Friend : Gauri in Chulbul's disguise actually saw the real Om. She witnessed how broken, lost and in pain he actually is. There are only 3 people he trusted the most, and chulbul soon earned a place with them.. He gave chulbul his 'barabar ka darja' irrespective of chulbul being a servant. Chulbul soon became as precious to him as his brothers. He had a deep connection with him. That connection forced him to go looking for chulbul 'he' went missing. And there he sees Gauri being a Thakuraaiyin and comes to know that she is his precious chulbul. The guy after a long time trusted an Outsider only to know that his trust was being played at. Sigh. His shaky belief system crumbled. I doubt whether he will ever fully trust any outsider again!
Om, The Family Man : No matter how much he tries to hide, no matter how much he hates himself for it, he is drawn to Gauri. Aware of her presence and absence, both. These feelings coupled with the deep friendship he had with chulbul, the fondness he felt for his 'friend' , no wonder he is one huge glorious mess of confused feelings. Feelings that are all over the place. He acknowledges what gauri did to save him from buama and asked a chance to know the real gauri. He saw it too,, the goodness in her heart. The fragile trust that was broken by chulbul was coming back . He opened up his heart about his art. The lack of it in his life. Huge step from someone who is a pro at hiding his pain & feelings. The Bareilly Gauri was a faint feeble memory in the back of his mind. Until the inspiration scene. The one word 'Bareily' from gauri and it was like a bucket of Cruel Ice Cold water on his feelings. The confrontation scene where he spewed vitriol was all for him than for gauri. How could he feel for someone who is a cause of someone's death? How could he be attracted, drawn , feel a deep connection with someone who has destroyed a family in a way similar to what Svetlana did to his mother. Gauri pushed him for answers , confronted him at the wrong time when he was sorting out his own feelings for her. Had she waited a lil longer the scenario would have been different. She demanded his feelings for her, her place in his life, accused him of hypocrisy giving him an ultimatum that she would leave forever and he gave her the answers so that she wont. (Sigh, Om) He blurted out in anger (more at himself) what he feels for the Gauri Thakurayin image of her, the place 'she' has in his life. The way we say things in anger when we are cornered. Which is why he was flabbergasted when she left. He gave her the answers hoping she wont leave, though because bareily gauri was in the forefront of his mind at that time, he only blurted out without thinking about the repercussions what his 'mind' felt about her. He wants to believe what his heart says but was forced to side with what his eyes saw and mind judged. Which is why he quickly trusted what Dandi bhaiya told him. His heart has always believed or wanted to believe gauri's goodness. There were two gauri's in his mind. One is the chulbul version , the other Svetlana version. He feels for the former, detests the later but is drawn towards both.

Now that the misunderstanding is out of the way (somewhat!) , he sees her in a new light, he sees her in a way his heart always wanted his mind to see, the friendship, trust and fondness he had for chulbul and the attraction, unsaid, unnamed feelings he feels for gauri have collided. He is in awe.
He doesn't let her go, he wants her to stay because he likes who he is when he is with/around her. He is scared of himself, of what he will become without her. Only with her, only due to her he can stay at this comfortable place between a pathar that he became and a dil he originally was. Somewhere subconsciously, he acknowledges that only she can make him feel something. Without her he truly wil be lost.

P.S. IB time for me is Analysing Om and Anika time. (Anika is the most complex out of the IB girls) have got lot to say about her too but some other time. š
P.P.S Now that today, Om is coming back after a week , I just wanted to say I missed seeing this broken but beautiful character on screen. Sigh! ā¤ļø
