<Chapter 2>
Her voice is melancholy, her eyes a ray of sunshine
If I get it daily, why would I whine?
3 months passed away and Gauri grew closer to Jhanvi. Gauri's sweet caring nature gave her much comfort. Her non intriguing nature and ability to understand things without her having to tell it out, made things easier. Jhanvi grew so comfortable that she started opening up to her on all the problems that is bugging her mind. She spoke to Gauri about Tej's divorce proposition and Svetlana and Omkaara's impending wedding to avoid Svetlana going back to Tej. Gauri seemed to understand that Omkaara's wedding with Svetlana was the most unbearable thing to her more than the divorce. But her son won't listen since he wanted to defeat his father's vile intentions about hurting his mother.
Gauri hadn't seen Svetlana yet, but kind of got sense about what kind of person she might be, from Jhanvi's side. She tried her maximum possible to cheer her up, telling her all positive scenario's, getting her to eat and take medicines properly, refraining her from consuming alcohol. There was a visible difference in Jhanvi. She looked and felt better. Omkaara grew happier to look at his mother changed for good. Jhanvi's need for Gauri grew more and more each day as if she was her only hope in this darkness. She started going out all by herself after so many months. That particular day she had gone out for a library opening ceremony organized by one of her friend. Gauri was left out in the house since Jhanvi left earlier.
Omkaara was passing by the living room. Just then he heard a melancholic voice singing. The house was almost empty since no one was there except daadi. He moved in the direction of the voice. It let him to the mandir inside the house. There he saw Gauri sitting before the Shankar bhagwan's idol sitting in a mesmerized state and closed eyes, singing with utmost devotion. She generally wears plain suits but today she was wearing a saree and her usually braided hair had come loose and was flowing till her waist. She looked like a celestial nymph in the simple attire and Omkaara couldn't take his eyes off her for a brief time.
Gauri was interrupted by a shrill voice shouting "Omkaara". She was shocked and turned back to see where the voice came from. Omkaara was standing before the mandir and behind him was a tall woman in a stylish attire and heavy makeup. She walked upto him, and held his shoulders as if he belonged to him. Omkaara's face grew more irritable and disgusting on seeing her.
"What are you doing baby..? Weren't you supposed to announce our wedding date this week?
Oh, so she is Svetlana? Gauri tried to move with uneasy expression while omkaara's eyes were following her. Svetlana noticed his look on her and grew furious.
"Hey.. who the hell are you.. aren't you a servant? Why are u dressed up like this and roaming around this house without doing any work? Arent you paid for this? Now go and do some bloody work" Svetlana shouted at Gauri.
Omkaara got instigated "Svetlana, shut up. What the hell do you want?"
"Baby you are forgetting the prenup date is getting over this weekend and you are supposed to marry me by this time. If you are not, you very well know the consequences. I can sue you or I can claim your property or else there is always option T, you know that right?"
Omkaara s face grew worser. Gauri saw his face once and left the place quietly.
"Svetlana we are engaged. I don't have plans for marriage now. I have got some really important assignments. Let me finish that and think about this" Omkaara snapped at her and cursing his fate for having to do this horror of sorts
"Oh baby. I wish I could wait. But I can't .. am running out of time. Its ok we can get legally married first and then the nuptials can wait. Kya khayal hai tumhaara Omkaara" Svetlana was trailing her hands on his firm masculine stature. She so wanted to have this man. She was growing impatient day by day.
Omkaara felt disgust and a pukeworthy feeling. He took her hands out of his body.
"Svetlana. I have to talk to my lawyer about this and I need time. Tum wait nahi kar sakthi ho?" his voice was stern
"Ofcourse no baby. I will arrange for a court wedding tomm morning since tomm is Friday and have whatever rituals later. Legal wedding is fine with me. I just want to be your wife soon" Omkaara turned his face to avoid the lust oozing out of her eyes. How in the world is he going to put up with her. HE can't sustain minutes with her, let alone days and years.
"I will see" Omkaara hurried to his room.
When Jhanvi arrived Omkaara was waiting for her in her room. He hadn't seen gauri since morning after Svetlana yelled at her. HE wanted to apologize for Svetlana's behavior but she was not to be found. Jhanvi came in and greeted omkaara. She found her son's worried face and was enquiring him about the issue. Omkaara confided Svetlana's plans to get married to him legally before this weekend. Jhanvi was horrified for a second.
"Nahi Om, tu aisa nahi karega. Bilkul nahi karega.. wo jo chahe kare.. tu usse shaadi nahi karega" Jhanvi was crying. Gauri stood near the door silently.
Om hugged jhanvi. "Mom, its ok. I will do fine. Aap janti hain na Svetlana ki intentions. Prenup bhi hogaya.. ab there is no running back. I have to do it mom" Omkaara was not knowing how not to sound worried.
"Bhaad mein jaaye prenup. we will deal with that legally. It's not a marriage certificate just a prenup that you will marry her and she will inherit the property. Tu lekar aao documents ko. Main lawyer se baat karti hoon" Jhanvi was adamant in getting to find loopholes to nullify the prenup.
Omkaara turned back and saw gauri standing silently at the door. He moved beside her while both looked at each other for a moment.
Jhanvi was still crying and Gauri was consoling her. Omkaara came with prenup and Gauri moved aside the bed and waited near the chair. Jhanvi snatched the document from him and was reading it. Omkaara looked at Gauri while Gauri looked at him with an unexplained expression in her eyes.
"Yes Jhanvi gloated after few minutes "Om ab tu Svetlana se shaadi nahi karega
"Par mom.. kyun.. kaise?" Omkaara was confused.
"Kyunki isme likha hai only your wife gets the property after marriage and she inherits your shares if you refuse to marry her. The name of your wife is not mentioned.
Omkaara's face brightened. "Mom. but Svetlana has signed in this papers so have I"
"May be Omkaara but her name is not mentioned anywhere"
"So what do we do"
"Wait let me consult the lawyer" Jhanvi dialed her dispute lawyer. After a brief convo, she held up.
Gauri was about to leave but omkaara stopped her.
Jhanvi looked thoughtful after the call. She needs to save her son's life. She needs someone who could..
She saw Gauri standing near the chair. Jhanvi knew what to do. She turned to Gauri.
"Gauri.. tum mujhe apni maa manti ho na.. Kya tum mere bete ko shaadi kar sakthi ho, kal? Please Gauri?"
