Seeing the latest promo and the general reactions in the forum, I feel compelled to post some thoughts on the NKK track again.
To my great surprise, the writers actually managed to handle Shivaay's internal struggle regarding NKK quite well this week. He has made it more than clear that it's not a matter of choice, Anika is an implicit truth of his life now...if it had to be a choice, he would choose her over and over again because he cannot live without her.
What has unfortunately been somewhat disappointing is Anika and the general fandom's reaction where they continue to misconstrue Shivaay's actions and motivations vis a vis him looking into Anika's background. Where for some reason, all of Shivaay's obvious protectiveness and love for Anika gets swept to the side simply because he feels compelled to get answers and is human and flawed enough to feel happy if things fall into place vis a vis her having NKK.
A few simple questions I must ask:
1) Where has Shivaay ever said that him finding out about Anika's past will end up deciding the fate of their relationship? How did a simple curiosity for answers suddenly become the reason for such a sweeping judgement call regarding his love for Anika? Has he thought any less of her after finding out about her past? Has his love and regard for her lessened in any way? If anything, it has only increased the degree of his protectiveness of his affection for her...he looks pained, yes when he learns of her lack of NKK...but it is indicative of his internal struggle...a lifetime of having based all his thoughts and opinions on the NKK of a person colliding with the reality of being in love with a woman who has none of this...the very fact that he is pained already shows his choice, if a choice is what people want him to make...it is not a pain of regret, it is the pain of being humbled...and that is extremely tough for a man not used to being humbled by life to this extent.
2) The most hilarious irony in all of this...the fact that Anika too is digging into his past, the truth of his birth vis a vis the Mahi investigation and she is doing so against his wishes...but no one vilifies her for that...lol...despite the very OBVIOUS parallels the writers are drawing in both Shivaay and Anika hiding their investigations from each other knowing that the other will not approve of what they are doing...both of them trying to shield each other from the possible pain of the truth, but still needing to KNOW the truthđ...
Yet it is only Shivaay who must chooseđđ...over and over again, he is asked by Anika and the audience (per the new promo) to choose b/w her and NKKđ.
I'm quite stumped as to where Anika and the audience begin to draw this conclusion that him looking into her past means he chose NKK over her. That it can only be an either/or situation...that it has to be an ultimatum...how is this a relationship of equals when one gets to issue ultimatums and the other must bow down or lose? A healthy relationship would allow for both of them to work through their ideological differences, both of them making allowances for each other and learning to coexist with each other's different takes on life because at the end of the day, their love would bind them together more strongly than their differences pulling them apart.
3) Obviously, there is scope for Shivaay's NKK ideology to EVOLVE...it is already obvious that Anika is the grand exception to all his rules, NKK included...it was more than apparent during this iconic moment in their story:
He could have called her his Biwi simply to save face per NKK but no one compelled him to publicly acknowledge her as his STRENGTH...he did that all on his own.
I understand Anika's insecurities and abandonment issues on this topic...she is extra sensitive regarding any mention of her past, lack of NKK...but I feel some introspection is required on her part too...she demands that he let her be "Simply Anika"...fiercely holds on to that lack of a surname, lack of a family background...demands that she not be asked to change...but expects him to change a whole 180 from the beliefs he's held all his lifeđđ...so how is this takkar ka, how is it equal?
Shivaay has committed many blunders in the past, is yet to make up or apologize for some of them...pick on him for that, Anika...but this? To demand that you not be asked to change a bit while he completely change himself? How is that fair?
I ask, why must it even be a choice? Why can't his NKK beliefs coexist along with his feelings for Anika? Why can't both evolve simultaneously as this relationship evolves? Change doesn't happen overnight...it takes time, many life experiences to evolve a thinking, an ideology...Shivaay will need to see a different world, experience different situations to evolve his thinking on this topic...and the same goes for Anika...it should be mutual...not based on ultimatums.
