Ishqbaaz - Understanding Emotions - Is It So Difficult? - Letters To Characters
by

Saheli Goswami.
Indian television has one best thing about it. The writers of the daily soaps are very good in making their characters express emotions. While some emotions are complicated some are made to look obvious. But in both the ways, the writing and the expression excel.
Today Shivaay's emotions in Ishqbaaz's episode was an obvious one. It wasn't much difficult to understand that the man was disturbed. Yet, the woman who keeps shouting Mera Shivaay', Mera Beta' and Mera Heera' 24 times in 24 hours of the day could not really decipher why there had been tears in her son's eyes, the man who isn't shown to be crying much ever!

Dear Pinky,

Did you ever gave it a thought about how much you understand your son? Today I came to believe that you understand Shivaay as much as Tia understands him. Probably that's why you like her so much as well. Both of you have tea spoon amount of intelligence when it comes to understanding the real emotions of Shivaay. You keep calling him Mera Shivaay, Mera Heera', Mera Raja Beta' 100 times and she keeps calling him My Shivaay Baby' 10,000 times(Yayyy! Finally we have a similarity between you two). I wish addressing someone as your own could really make you understand that person as your own! You simply proved today that blind love might give you possession on someone but not the pleasure of fully knowing someone.
Know this simply fact Pinky, you possess your son. You can express your right on him. But as a mother, you don't know him even a bit!
When you were trying to feed your son, he cried today. When you asked the reason, he simply told you, Mujhe achcha nahi lag raha hai'. And you drew your own conclusion that he cried as he didn't like the food.
Like really? Who is he? The Shivaay Singh Oberoi and why did he cry? Because he didn't like the food? And which fool in the world would believe it? Well, the answer is known to all. I don't want to insult SSO's mother's intelligence and understanding towards her son more.
You witnessed your son coming back to life because of Anika and still you insult her the way a person would even cringe to talk to their house maids. The precap was simply something that only a woman belonging to a slum would do. Who badmouths a weeping person on the road like that? An Oberoi? Shivaay Singh Oberoi's mother? So much for khoon khaandaan' and I wonder if this is how khaandaani' people behave and talk!
I always thought no on screen mother can be as obsessive and possessive as the neighbourhood show's mother is (Ishwari of Kuch Rang Pyar Ke Aise Bhi). But you Pinky, have crossed the extremes that even that mother can't dream to do in her life. Let's imagine would she badmouth her ex daughter in law if she finds her weeping in the middle of the road? Ermmm, Nope. I don't think so!

Dear Shivaay,
Do you know you had a few first timers today in your life. For the first time you demanded from your brothers to bring Anika to you. For the first time, you cried in front of your mother, told her why you cried and yet could not express the true reason and for the first time, you showed your irrevocable care and love for Anika in front of a well observing company.
But you know the real reason why you cried Shivaay? You didn't cry for Anika. You cried that in that very room, in your presence something very wrong was happening. You understood that the wrong should not continue and yet you didn't have the strength to stand up against the wrong to make things right. In short, you felt weak to take things under your control, you felt weak as you could not do what you would have done in other circumstances and that feeling of weakness brought tears in your eyes.

This Shivaay is like a new small leaf suddenly emerging out from an overgrown tree. This Shivaay is delicate, sensitive, emotional and very very vulnerable. This Shivaay, somewhere deep down is aware that his feelings for Anika is irreversible now. From where he has reached in the course of love, there's no coming back henceforth. Omkara's words in today's episode will ring in your ears for a long time.
Best of luck Shivaay, both for being in love and for denying your being in love. It's just a matter of time when your denial will lose the battle in front of your love.
