Tahiti! You brilliant woman!! You brought in a genre writers sometimes barely pull off (I, personally, struggle to write thriller/mystery fictions) and made me stick through it! That ending was amazing, seriously.
Firstly, I loved seeing PriVeer in a very normal, domestic setting. How settled and comfortable they seem in this story. And then, slowly bringing in Ranveer's daily struggles at work, especially with the current case. The entire chapter was like a slow build up to the crux of issue - Ranveer is in danger, and now, so is Priyanka.I am so excited for this. Can't wait to find out what the serial killer is up to, and how these two are going to help one another.P.S. So glad Ayaan isn't there to get tangled in this mess!EDIT: Okay, I hadn't realised you had updated Chapter 4 as well😆So this one's for chapter 4. It's getting more and more intense! I loved the description you gave on Khurana's room. It's creeping me out already, baha. And yikes, I hope Ranveer gets back before Prinku is in trouble! As always, you leave us wanting more of this.Thank you for the PM, Tahiti! Looking forward for more😳

But it is so well written, you get the chills.
Shadow
The man moved away from the bushes, tightened his shawl around him, and proceeded towards the door. He slowly took out his carving knife, its edges shining brightly under the full moon. Suddenly a police jeep stopped, a few meters from him, and he stopped in his tracks. A man got down from the jeep and proceeded towards the door, suddenly stopping to look behind him. Ranveer had a feeling of being watched. So, he turned around and started walking towards the bushes. He looked around; there was no one nearby. He frowned. Was that his imagination? He shook his head and headed back towards the front door of his house.
The shadowy man in the grey shawl was hiding behind a big tree and slowly started to step back. He recognized the man getting down from the jeep to be the ACP. Bingo! This is where the ACP lived! He will come back to pay the little lady a visit. He smirked. This is why she was hesitant! She is the woman who answered the phone call meant for the ACP.
He slowly crossed the boundary walls and headed towards his car. He took off his shawl and threw it inside the trunk. The man got inside his car, checking himself in the rearview mirror, two pair of eyes - one green and one black were staring at him. He laughed at his own reflection and started the engine, his car slowly disappearing in the cold night.
Priyanka heard someone ringing the bell, and her breath caught up in her throat. She slowly proceeded towards the door, peeked through the hole. It was Ranveer. She sighed in relief and opened the door. Ranveer noticed the look on her face and asked, "everything ok?" and furrowed his eyebrows. Priyanka closed the door, and turned around, "everything is perfect!" she exclaimed. Ranveer seemed very stressed out these days, she couldn't tell him what she saw in the mirror. Then again, it could have been her imagination.
She hugged him, because she missed him. Ayaan was at Soumya and Rudra's place, Ranveer was at all day, which meant she was all alone today. The creepy man and those eyes, she shuddered inwardly at the thought. Ranveer hugged her back, his nose in her hair, inhaling her scent. He missed her; he wanted to go back to the less complicated times, when he didn't have this case in his hands. "Long day?" he asked and she nodded, her face buried in his chest. "Missed me?" Ranveer asked, in a teasing tone. She nodded and pulled back. Ranveer observed her, he knew there was something on her mind. "Prinku, is everything ok?" he asked, holding her face in his hands. She held her hands, rubbing her cheek against his hands. She looked up at him, and smiled before saying "I am fine! How have you been?!" Ranveer nodded in understanding and said "all good Prinku. Don't you worry your little head over anything." Priyanka nodded and said, "I am starving, let's eat?"
She couldn't tell him what was bothering her, for he would worry sick and he had a lot of his shoulders already. Those eyes kept haunting her, pulling her back to the incident earlier. "Prinku? Priyanka!" Ranveer suddenly broke her trance, surprised that she zoned out. Priyanka was startled and replied "Yes Ranveer!" Ranveer frowned. He asked, "you're ok?" She quickly nodded and said "Yes! Why won't I be? Tired. That's all!" Ranveer stared at her for a while and said "I will go freshen up." Priyanka nodded and followed him.
She took Ranveer's clothes and proceeded towards the laundry room. She couldn't tell Ranveer about tonight, well, at least not now.
Ranveer turned on the shower, contemplating on everything that has happened today. He needed to read the book written by Samrat Khurana, for he believed it will give him some clue about Samrat, the professor. His mind drifted back to his room. How come he didn't have a single mirror in his room? He turned off the faucet, the mirrors inside the bathroom were all foggy. Ranveer put his bathrobe on, before he wiped off the water residue off of the mirror and staring at it. His eyes were sunken and bloodshot, forehead creased, a slight stubble adoring his cheeks. No wonder Priyanka saw through him. He furrowed his eyebrows. Priyanka was being troubled, but by what? Ranveer sighed, the past few days have been crazy. His mind drifted back to his case - why wasn't there a single of Mr. Khurana's adulthood? Certificate from Harvard? He graduated from an Ivy League school yet no diploma? Was Samrat Khurana hiding something? Definitely.
The duo was now sitting at the dining table; Ranveer in sweatpants and a Navy blue T, while Priyanka was now wearing a pair of white pajamas with polka dots and a black T. Both were quitter tonight, for today was rather eventful for both and they were hesitant to share for they didn't want to worry the other. "Rough day?" Priyanka suddenly asked. "Hmm?" Ranveer looked up at her, clearly not paying attention to what she was saying. "You had a rough day?" she asked, her voice filled with concern. Ranveer nodded and said "the usual. The case is eating me up." She put down her fork and squeezed his hand before saying "it will be all good. You'll make it. No matter how hard the case is. I just know it." He smiled at her, feeling his strained muscles relaxing. She smiled back at him, not showing a single drop of worry for she knew that he would worry sick. She would've told him the truth but this case was taking a toll on him and she didn't want to make it worse. Besides, what was the worse that could happen?
Ranveer looked up at the orphanage - an old grim looking building staring at him, the paint on its wall wearing off. "Doyashil Hosto," Shinde said. "What does that mean?" Yaser asked, curiosity gleaming in his eyes, holding his notepad and pen in his hands. "It basically means a hand which gives. So, basically a kind human being," Ranveer said, and then continued, "it was started by two friends, one of them was a Bengali, hence the Bangla name." He went inside, followed by Shinde and Yaser, a young policeman who recently joined Ranveer's team. He had to admit that Yaser was super excited to be working on this case and was the most energetic when Ranveer mentioned that they would be visiting the orphanage.
The interior was better; you could tell that once it was a beautiful house with a big garden at the back, and now only the rusted beauty was left behind. Ranveer and his team sat down near a window - the wooden sides now covered in dust. Ranveer looked straight outside, his memory drifting back to a time when he was still young and was playing hide and seek with his sister Nisha. He could remember her - young, her long black hair in soft curls, eyes shining in hope.
"Hello, I am Sharmila Mehta," a lady suddenly said and broke Ranveer's trance. He looked up at the woman - an aged woman, her eyes still young, gray hair with hints of white, a kind smile adorning her face. It suddenly reminded Ranveer of his late mother - a woman who always stuck to her word, who had fought against the world to stand up what she believed in. Ranveer got up and smiled, suddenly feeling a bit at ease at the older woman's smile. "Hello, aunty, I am ACP Ranveer Singh Randhawa, and this is my team - Shinde and Yaser," Ranveer said.
"I remember Samrat; he was such a kind child!" Ms. Mehta said, her eyes gleaming with joy and pride. "I was like an elder sister to him! He would always help everyone out. "Sadly he had to leave one day. A young couple came and adopted him. Then they moved to America," she said, her eyes suddenly tearing up. Ranveer consoled her, patting on her hand. She then continued, "Samrat used to call after he left from India, but then he suddenly stopped," sniffling. She wiped her tears and then said, her eyes showing a little ray of hope, "I heard recently that his parents came back! I hope Samrat is well! I heard he is doing well! Professor at Delhi University! I just hope it's all true." Samrat Khurana's parents are back?! Ranveer was startled. He asked suddenly "Ms. Mehta, do you know where do they live?" "Oh beta, they are at their old home! You should definitely see them!" she exclaimed.
Ranveer came out of the orphanage. He had finally started to see this case going somewhere. Right now, he needed to track down Samrat Khurana's parents. Maybe they could answer his questions regarding their son's whereabouts?
Priyanka came outside the house for a jog; her mind has been filled with a billion things and she really needed to clear off her head. She put the earplugs in, and turned up the volume as she ran down the small hill before entering the park. Priyanka was so entranced by the recent events that she didn't notice the figure behind her.
Ranveer came out of the orphanage and told his team "we need to go to Mr. Khurana's old home. Now, we have to go back to the station. Shinde, did you manage to get me what I asked you to?" Ranveer asked. "Yes, sir. We have gathered all the info about the missing Mr. Khurana's career as a professor, we also can know now what he will look like today" Shinde finished.
Priyanka was now heading back home but suddenly stopped in her tracks. She suddenly felt being watched. She turned around but found no one. So, she continued running, the feeling of being watched never leaving her. Priyanka ran as fast as she could, getting up the hill and running inside her house in a lightening speed. She closed the door and huffed. Her heartbeat had escalated; sweat dropping from her forehead. She was panting, trying to catch her breath.
Ranveer's phone rang; it was an unknown caller. He answered the call and his breath got caught in his throat for a bit. "Hello, ACP, you have a rather beautiful wife" the man said and cut the call. What was that? How did he get his number? More importantly how dare he ogling his wife?! Ranveer was worried and furious. He would hunt this man down and poke his eyes out. He instantly called Priyanka, and the latter didn't pick up. Ranveer's panic was now rising.
Ranveer ran to his jeep, his throat drying.
She suddenly heard the doorbell ring and jumped. Priyanka gathered herself, chanting before she peeked through the hole. A Sales Associate? She hesitantly opened the door and saw a man standing in front of her. Something about him seemed familiar but Priyanka couldn't pin point who that was. "Madam, do you know about her promotion?" the man asked, his face holding a grin. Priyanka shuddered, something didn't seem right about this man. So, she politely declined, for the man was rather creepy. He seemed to be annoyed, but then pull off a fake smile and said "ok, madam. I will see you next time," his eyes suddenly changing its language. Priyanka gulped. Who was this man? The man then slowly walked off. Priyanka closed the door, suddenly hit with a feeling of fear.
Ranveer ran outside the jeep, and bumped into someone. He didn't even bother with apologizing, his eyes met with the man's for a second - they seemed extremely familiar. Who was that man? Ranveer saw him pulling his hoodie over his head and that gave Ranveer a chance to look at his hand - scar running from his thumb all the way down his arm, which was covered by the arms of the hoodie. Ranveer snapped out of it suddenly and turned around running towards his home. He had to make sure Priyanka was ok. Why didn't she tell him that she was being followed?
