I think their original storyline was about brotherhood, but then SP thought that it should be about a powerful girl so they changed the script

Well nakul jitna ss na sahi. Par show ka promo ka lihaz sa baki dono ko proper track n story tu milni chiya thi...

I think Omkara was an important character, because maximum research was done to finalize that actor, while Surabhi, Leenesh, Neha and Nakul were selected around June 2015 (Twinkle too), Kunal was selected during late March 2016.

They did a lot of research for the actor for this role, but finally couldn't find a famous GEC actor, so they zeroed to Kunal who had done the roles of extras in GEC, probably then they felt that he couldn't get the TRPs so they sidetracked his role and made Shivaaye the central character, because if you see Harshad is more famous than Nakul, they wouldn't have approached him for the role which current Omkara has
