There were several major distortions in Zee's Ramayan which insulted the characters' purity and greatness:

1) The upsara Rambha is sent from heaven to delay Ram and Sita's marriage so that it happens on an inauspicious moment (thereby bringing about Sita's abduction ). They showed all the men of the wedding party (including Ram) being enchanted by Rambha. So yeah, Ram who was always devout to Sita, was enchanted by an apsara.
This whole interference by the Gods was not needed at all, as the main purpose behind Ram avatar was to kill Ravan. Ram and Sita's marriage happened at a very auspicious moment. Even today, many marriages take place at that time so that couples have the love of Ram and Sita.

2) They showed Bharat jealous of Ram in childhood. Whenever Dashrath would show favoritism towards Ram, Bharat would get jealous. 🤢 This is an unforgiveable distortion, as the brothers were never jealous of Ram. They were devoted to him, and they competed with each other for Ram's love, never with Ram. If Dashrath favored Ram, the brothers favored him more.

3) When Sita enters the household after marriage, Kaikeyi is cruel to her and humiliates her in front of everyone. Kaikeyi is a typical Zee Tv saas in this Ramayan. She considers Sita's family lower in status to Ayodhya's, which makes absolutely no sense. 😕

4) Shatrughan violently beats up Manthara after he finds out about Ram's vanvaas. She pleads with him to let her go but he continuously beats her up. No matter what she did, she was an old lady and the epic Shatrughan would never have done that. 🤢

5) Vasishta organizes a competition between Ram and Bharat, and whoever wins would get the throne. Ram lets Bharat win and Bharat is announced the rightful heir. At first Bharat is actually happy about winning, and then he turns around and gives the victory to Ram. This Bharat has some major issues with Ram.

6) In the Ashok Vatika, Sita reaches into Ravan's waistband and grabs his sword, threatening him to let her go. Sita never willingly touched Ravan, not even to free herself. This is a major distortion.

7) All the way in the beginning, after Sita Swayamvar (but before marriage), Urmila visits Lakshman in his bedchamber to spy on him to see if he loves her. Women back then, especially princesses, never went into a man's bedchamber if he was not her husband. This Urmila was very modern.

There were many more incidents, but these are the only ones I remember now. I watched the whole show to see if it would improve at any point, but it never improved. The distortions were horrible, more horrible than even Starbharat's.

Don't know whether to laugh or cry, seriously all points except pt 4 ; Shatu was really angry so he dragged Manthara : https://www.valmikiramayan.net/ayodhya/sarga78/ayodhya_78_prose.htm was stopped by Bharat timely
But serial must have added extra masala to it ..
NDTV Ramayan had shown Sita slapping a Rakshasi but zee went steps ahead of it 🤢
Nothing more to say😔
Thanks for elaborating, none the less

@Maverick,
Yes, I agree with you. There were some scenes I did not like in NDTV Ramayan too (like Sita slapping the rakshasis and sending widows' clothing to Ravan's wives), but none of them were as horrific as the ones shown in Zee's Ramayan. I'm not saying this as a biased fan, because I would not have become a fan of the show in the first place if I felt it insulted the great epic characters. NDTV Ramayan was not perfect, but compared to all the new mythological shows of recent years, it did not have as many distortions. It did not change any major storylines or insult the charaters. It did not show saas-bahu drama or malign the characters' actions. The distortions it did have were silly and nonsensical, but they were not harmful ones.

I did watch Zee's Ramayan with a completely open heart, but I was so horrified by the stories it was showing that I could never like it. The distortions were really shocking, it's no surprise that Zee Tv axed the show before it could finish. The last episode of this Ramayan was so hastily done because Zee told them to wrap the entire Ravan/Indrajit battles and return to Ayodhya in one episode. They lost major viewership.

Hi guys i am excited for this serial as well

I am guessing this serial will be based on the book 'Sita' by devdutt patnaik since that is also Ramayan from Sita's POV

Has any one read that book?

I didn't read that book, wary that it portrayed Ram in a negative light. I have however, read this book and did not like it. http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/91MkMIP%2BAiL.jpg

It portrayed Ram as another negative character in Sita's life. These modern authors don't understand the essence of Ram and Sita's love.

Since Devdutt Patnaik is the writer i think he will give balanced opinions but lets see i have just started reading it

Regarding the serial in the promo they say that its an unseen and unheard part of Ramayana so i guess we can expect a lot of distortions😆

About Ramyana i have read Valmiki's version online and also some articles regarding it i always had one question about it since most of you here are more knowledgeable in this area than me just wanted to ask you guys

So as per what i have read Uttara Kand that is last book of Ramayan in which Sita ji goes for exile is an interpolation or latter addition not written by Valmiki along with some initial chapters of Bala Kanda as well?Is this true?And if yes then who added this Uttara Kanda if Valmiki hadnt written it?

I have also read that even Ramchiratramanas by Tulsidas ends with a happy Ram and Sita ji with no exile.

Let me know how the book is after you're done. If the story is just like Ramayana in Sita's POV, then I'll read it, but if there's a bunch of feminist interpolations with Sita holding bitterness against Ram and Ram being portrayed as an loving husband, I'll give it a pass.

Regarding Uttar Kand, I am not knowledgeable enough to determine whether it's an interpolation or not, but in my personal opinion, I don't think the complete kanda is an interpolation. Valmiki had to have written it, because Ramayana starts off with Luv Kush narrating the epic in Ayodhya, and from there Baal Kand starts. I do think some stories in Uttar Kand may be an interpolation, but I don't think the complete kanda is, because Yudh Kand is incomplete. How can the story end with Ram and Sita's coronation? Valmiki was told to write the entire life story of Shri Ram, so how could he have ended it with the coronation, without writing what happened in Ram's rule? Ram did many things in his rule besides the Ashvamedha yagna. I doubt Valmiki would have left that all out and ended with the coronation. Luv and Kush were real characters, so why would Valmiki have left their story out?

As for Tulsidas Ramayana, he purposefully left out Sita's exile because he did not have the heart to write it. In his "Uttar Kand", he does not write about Sita or Luv Kush at all. He just writes a little about Ram's rule and spends most of the time narrating background stories. Ram is in his royal court with all his brothers and ministers, and there he is told all about Ravan and his family's background stories, and how hard it truly was to defeat them. So most of the background stories we know about Ravan and his family are from Tulsidas' Uttar Kand. There is also the story of Kaagbushandi the crow and his association with baby Ram. So Tulsidas' Uttar Kand is not really a continuation of the epic. It's more a prologue in many aspects.

Question - is the whole 'content removed' thing a new automated thing on the site? I haven't been here in a while but now that I'm back I'm seeing that in every thread I want to post in 😆
About this show, on one hand I'm going through major withdrawal without any mytho on air right now but serious another Ramayan 🥱 Particularly by Nikhil Sinha who tried and failed to incorporate it into DKDM... I'm a little wary. Since it's been labeled a romance, I doubt it will take a modern feminist angle - neither thought provoking nor simply provocative - but just progress very slowwwlyyy from Sita's youth dreaming of/praying for Ram to her rescue, with weeklong pushp vatika scenes and more like the K3G choodi stall moment DKDM gave SiyaRam in Mithila. What I'd like to see is a somewhat less dry but expanded version of BRC's Sita, we got glimpses of her and her sisters' education and talents and individuality so yeah, that would be refreshing.

@ Sabhayata - I've read a number of Patnaik's articles on Sita and they're all quite reverent of both her and Ram while combating criticisms of her being too soft and meek a role model for the modern world, so I imagine that his book would be a good foundation for the show.

I have no fears that the show will be disrespectful, just a little superfluous and slow especially after we've seen the same story on screen so many times. But at worst, it will be pretty and give me something new to gif, so let's see :P

@Lola,
If this show is going to be romantic and cheesy, then I don't mind watching it because like you said, the scenery and the outfits are probably going to be pretty and worth making creations of. 😆
