Today i.e., 10 Nov 2012 is "Govatsa dwadasi" - observed on the 12th day of the waning phase of moon (Krishna Paksha) in Ashwin month. The day is dedicated to the worship of cow and calf. The main ritual on the day is offering puja to cow and calf as it symbolizes auspicious and prosperity.So On this day we all must offer fresh food to mother Cow and take oath to save them. This day also marks the beginning of Deepavali Celebrations.

This is also the same day in 7230 BC, " Dhruva ", the devotee of the god Vishnu who got blessed to attain the position of the polar star, was born to Uttanapada. His tale is recorded in the Vishnu Purana and the Bhagavata Purana.

Govatsa Dwadashi is also observed as Guru Dwadashi in Gujrat. In Maharashtra, the day is popularly known as Vasubaras. It is also known as Govamsa Puja in some regions of North India...

About me : by the blessings of Prabhu Shri Ramachandra & Sita Mata, I'm ok dear. I have arranged for lamps & some eco-friendly crackers. I just burn Phooljhari & Charki. I really cant tolerate the tremendous sound trackers. In bengal, people worship Mata MahaKaali on the day of Diwali.

How ur preparation of Diwali going ? Please burst cracker very carefully under parental guidance & please dont wear silk clothes & try to avoid sound crackers dear.
