After fulfilling his ambition of becoming a singer, Abhijeet Sawant has trained his eyes on Bollywood and hopes to debut soon on the silver screen.
Sawant says, "Yes. I want to act. I'm getting a lot of offers but I need to choose a film that will suit my personality. I don't think I can do an action flick. I'm nervous about going into this arena as I don't want to slip up. I want to play roles that will go well with my singer's image."
It is worth mentioning that Sawant's idol Sonu Nigam slipped up while attempting acting. What does he feel about that? "I'm aware of that. His example is a big stumbling block to my taking the plunge into acting. But I am young and open to experimenting. I need to find out what I'm good at doing."
Right now, Sawant is busy with his second album and numerous live shows. "It seems strange. But even after a year of winning on Indian Idol, I still continue to get as many offers for live shows as before. I'm also doing a second album where I will go completely solo. It's much more ambitious than my first album."
He admits he's tired of doing concerts and says, "I keep singing film songs sung by established voices. I don't mind that but I try to showcase my original work too on stage. I'm doing some playback singing as well."
Abhijeet was even invited as a celebrity judge on Indian Idol. "It felt strange. I realised what a big responsibility it is to be a judge. I remember, if Sonu Nigam criticised my singing I couldn't sleep at night. If your idol says you aren't doing well, the feeling of defeat is indescribable."
With the Indion Idol finals round the corner, he says he has a word of advice for the contestants, "Amit Sana, Rahul Vaidya and other finalists from the first Indian Idol have become like family to me. I'd advice the finalists this time too to remain bonded beyond the contest so they can support each other in their respective careers."
