Wadkar wants Ameya, Ravi to better Vaidya...
Suresh Wadkar is grinning from ear to ear. The singer, who last sang in Ramji Londonwale, is very optimistic that students from his gurukul — Ameya and Ravi Tripathi have made it to the top 10 finalists in Indian Idol 2. And he is confident that they will make it in the last three as well. Wadkar had his moment under the sun in Indian Idol 1 as well, when Rahul Vaidya (another of his students) made it to the third position.
Vaidya ki vijay
"I strongly feel that Vaidya should have won. If you notice, he has got the largest response from the music directors and surely, they can't be wrong," Wadkar tells hitList, adding, "Maybe this time, one of my students will win the coveted crown."
About Ravi and Ameya
Though Ravi stays in Wadkar's gurukul Ajivasan in Juhu (which has hostel facility), Wadkar is fair, "I love both Ameya and Ravi equally. It's just that Ravi is from Lucknow, so he stays in Ajivasan. Ameya is from Mumbai, and hence goes back home. But yes, both have been learning under me extensively."
The 29-year old Ravi has been learning from Wadkar since ten years. "He had joined MBBS in Lucknow, but uska man nahin laga. He came here to pursue singing as a career." On the other hand, the 26-year old Ameya has been under Wadkar's wings since he was nine years old.
Wadkar, whose wife Padma has also had a major hand in training Vaidya, Amey and Tripathi, cannot decide who will do better of the two in the gala rounds. He signs off by simply saying, "Both have an equal chance. Both are equally talented and passionate in their singing. Let the public decide."
