Episode 8
It was time for the results of the first episode of the Piano Round, which featured the first seven boys chosen by the judges to compete for the Indian Idol Series 2 title.
As tension gripped the green room, the judges had firm opinions about the contestants, unaware of the major upset that was about to happen.
The seven contestants were nervous backstage. But they knew they had to put tension ahead because they had to perform 'Dil Chahta Hai' as a group.
The performance, which got the audience off their seats, was greeted by thunderous applause from the judges who felt that the seven should form a band and perform together!
Then, came some harsh realities. While the judges favoured the choice of Karunya, Sagar & Kshitij amongst the seven for the galas, India had decided on something else.
Sagar, Mukesh and Ravi were informed that they were amongst the top four performers of the evening. But when Aman and Mini announced that Kshitij was the next one in the top four, there was pin drop silence in the venue.
The judges were stunned as everyone's favourite, Karunya, didn't figure in the top four. Karunya, a Hyderabad resident, too, felt his life was over and he had lost all faith in the audience.
Then came the surprise! There was a tie of votes amongst two contestants, which meant Karunya was also amongst the top four for the evening! This brought in a new wave of joy, which shone on the faces of the judges who were reassured that their judgment wasn't wrong.
So while Rohit Sinha and Shree Kumar had been shown their way out of the show, the suspense now was about whom among the five left would make it to the next round.
Aman and Mini continued playing their pranks and delaying the results. Finally, the hosts began by naming the person who had bagged the maximum number of votes.
It was none other than Karunya who had impressed everyone with his rendition of a Punjabi number. Karunya's father, present on the occasion, couldn't control his emotions, but expressed his pride over his selection. The judges requested Karunya to sing the song again.
Next in row was Sagar Savarkar who had bagged the second highest votes that evening. Sagar, a student from Mumbai, burst out crying on stage and was consoled by Aman.
He was asked to sing the song he performed the previous evening and Farah felt that he sang very cutely even when he was crying.
Finally, the last contestant who was chosen for the galas was the one who had led to an argument between Anu and Sonu the previous evening. Ravi Tripathi was chosen by the audience to move to the galas.
The fact that luck had just saved him from being eliminated made Ravi lose control on stage. While Anu and Sonu continued to argue over him, Ravi knew he would now have to value this chance in the galas much more than any other contestant.
The evening ended with the judges expressing shock over the elimination of Kshitij Wagh. But they seemed to be convinced that the people of India know what's best.
