II now a genre specific show ??

So this post is about different genres of music in II

(M not a music expert but Ik that much which is required for making this post so no personal attacks)

This post is not about intricacy of music n types of notes , there are a lot of experts in this world!

So let's start with the most versatile contestants of II which aren't given much what they deserve:

• Ashish Kulkarni and sayali Kishore Kamle: In my pov they are the most versatile singers can sing any type of song and both play with their voices very well ! Their stage presence is the icing on the cake ! Blessed with tremendous stage presence and expressions they captivate the viewers (you can't just listen them as they not only sing but perform) n their duets are the best (this is coming from a person who loves ARUDEEP) but the chemistry they share is next level , it makes you enjoy the song (just like once Mr. Manoj said they both show the viewers a complete film in 3-4 min of their performance. )
• Next in this versatility list comes Nihal Tauro and Pawandeep Rajan: they both are also very versatile but can't reach to very high scales n have soft breezy voice , I personally love nihal's personality n find him most suitable for renditions and travel songs that are easygoing n full of positive vibes due to his ultra fresh voice ! N speaking of PD he has tried almost every genre n surprisingly did well, also a part of his versatility also come under his musical knowledge which I'll not talk about since it is a singing centric post. there is a depth in his voice which makes it different from others' n maybe this is the reason every song suits his voice.but PD needs to up his stage presence!
• Next comes Arunita: my motive is not to say she ain't versatile but she is not experimenting enough as much as the other contestants, her honey sweet voice can do wonders! ( In The Holi special episode she rocked it n should try that more often 🤩) the another fav performances of hers include her duet with PD on govinda special episode what an energy she had mixed with her sweet n as usual melodic voice ! She even outshone PD in that performance!
• Now comes SMP Danish Anjali Gaikwad n sawai bhatt : Danish was at his best when he sang jhoom barabar in honey Singh special episode whenever I listen to that no. Automatically I start dancing this is definitely his genre n he should continue to give such performances ! But this also means he isn't versatile (though he tries which is a good attitude but won't help him in future) he can't sing soft songs , SMP is also very specific to her yodelling whatever might be the song she'll do it but she should stick to the pop only as she's the best in it ! None can beat her in that ! Not to forget they too have tremendous stage presence n can make anyone dance on their tunes !
• SAWAI has a really good sharp voice which people search for traditional qawalis n Sufi songs ! He can do wonders in that zone but should have some control over his high notes it sometimes feels like shouting , coupling it with the kind of voice he has it is very impactful (more than any other contestant). should stick to his genre only which is gifted by God to him!
• And the classical queen Anjali should actually remain in classical world as people won't value her skills in today's times as seen in show itself! But one thing I would say that she has certainly improved in bringing softness in her voice , she doesn't sound to be screaming in alaps n high notes n that's a really big thing!

This is not to degrade any contestant all are exceedingly well in Thier genre but just a break up of versatility of each contestant😊

Once Vishal Dadlani replied a question about versatility on II12 on Twitter. He said as a music director in current period he would suggest contestants to excel in one genre. He mentioned gone are the days where one singer can sing entire film album so current need is being master in what they do. I don't remember exact wording but his answer is in same lines. Personally I believe that's true. Rather trying to be jack of all master of none I prefer them to be masters in one field which ever they choose. When any music director need a singer in that genre they should be top among the list. That doesn't mean they can't sing other genres but they won't excel like SMP can't excel in very soft melodies because her voice culture is not made for that and Anjali can't excel in Western like SMP. I choose both of them as both are my favorites and I follow them from long. In concerts they can try any song but in real playback or independent artist better to have their own Niche.

Just one correction about SMP I think you are under mis conception of she is yodeling in every song. She yodelled in may be 8 songs out of all in all of her 40 songs II12. She tries different genres of western like Rock, blues, Jazz,yodel, hiphop ,classical/western fusion all of them are different. It's not just yodeling. She is not just trying she is exceptional in most of them for her age.

N the thing you earlier said is absolute truth n this post is just for a versatility check, there is no ranking of the contestants as actually everyone has their own genre this time n it's a rare case it doesn't happen often that all the contestants are possessing a talent which is unique to them ! 🤩

N perfecting themselves is the only way they could go higher in Thier field, even being versatile is a unique quality here now coz most are determined/confined to Thier genres😀

It's just that coz they're in II they have to sing all genres (most probably... Earlier it was useful in determining the strengths n weaknesses of contestants but these singers are already trained n know what they'll do in future)

Earlier there was a dearth of singers so only some singers sang the whole album n for that they had to be versatile enough but nowadays it's actually really easy to become one singer but the fight is now for the top n there are lots n lots of singers emerging so being versatile is only an option when you are the one making the songs like PD n AK but for others if they the best in Thier genre they'll get work n if they are not they'll not .

I think all of them are Jack of all genres but masters of one or two.

They have that 1 genre where they are magic and have the X Factor. They have sung other genres too and done well too - these are what I call fan pleasers - the songs they sung to prove their versatility which the fans can showcase if anyone says they can't, but not their best and these performances won't be remembered other than the fans. But these contestants will be known and recognised for the songs they sung in their primary genre.

I will take examples of the girls as I like all the girls this season, think they are better than boys and have been following them more.

Arunita has fantastic voice and great for soft melodious and emotional songs. She also sang well in Other genres holi episode and layi vi na gayi.. but there will always be that someone else could have sung better. Like Danish would have been great for layi vi na gay.

Sayli is great in sweet and natkhat songs like ashaji. she also sang beedi jalai le which is great, but maybe in SMP voice it would have been more.

SMP is great for peppy and western songs.she also sang paanch rupaiyya baara aana and yeh toh hona hi tha and was praised for them too. But she would never be able to match the sweetness of Arunita and Sayli voices.

Anjali had sung melodious songs, but when she sings classical numbers, everyone has to sit up and take note.

In summary, I think if the contestants would have started with the different genre songs, maybe they would not have had the fans they have now. Those primary genres have become their brands and that is not a bad thing.

This is my first long post. And all just my opinions. No hate at all.

Earlier it was necessary to be versatile coz of dearth of good singers (I said that in my previous post too)

And for mediocre singers too it was beneficial as they get a better idea of Thier strengths

But nowadays there are lots of singers n perfecting one genre is beneficial ✨

Being versatile does add up to the oomph factor but in long run being the best is the thing even if it meant in one genre only !

Ps: sayali was 🔥 in beedi jalayile n she even over took Danish 🔥 (just my opinion)

Sanmukhapriya has proved her versatility many times. And Mind it for future that competitions are not for showing versatility. In their own genre, contestants do not get proper score but Sanmukhapriya is a bold girl who does not care people like you. You can not force any singer to sing the song out of his/her comfort zone. If you are not expert, then, do not criticize and shut your mouth.

4th versatility n perfection are two different things

One can be versatile but not perfect , one can be perfect but not versatile , n one can be both ! It depends on the singer n the texture of Thier voice 😌

5th these all are trained singers and know what to do n how to do in Thier future so no debating on that !

As an aside, i keep thinking what Anjali's father would do if Anjali is given songs like beedi jalai le or udta punjab for versatility 🤣. Considering he brought them up in such classical environment.

Arunita also won't be given these songs as they are promoting her as aunty in teenager ki khaal.

Good one.😀😀😀. We should see Anjali's father expressions if at all she sings these songs.

But jokes apart he deserves praise for bringing up such talented kids who are really amazing in classical.

I also have immense respect for his father as a singer too ! When he sang in classical along with Anjali ! Wow
