She looked amazing in the kameej and her makeup was done so well. But still many of us wondered why she was trying to explain her choice for nightwear to him. Especially, since he didn't ask for one. It looked like a forced dialogue and out of place.
But we Arylieans cannot rest till we have dissected every second of the episode. And I don't think the makers write random dialogues like that, without a cause.
I have 2 theories about it.
1. Its simplest of explanation that she has only worn new saris since wedding even at night and was awkward about going back to kameez, and didn't know how to start a conversation with him.
2. But again I like to endow the makers with more depth than probably they have so I have long winded theory too. Buckle up.
Imlie has been fighting the marriage since he strong armed her into it. Whenever she didn't have to pretend being the bride, she would go back to her simple kapaas ka kameez. During engagement when he comes to her to hurry her up she tells him, "jo bhi hai yahi hai". No one would have said she looked like a bride when they saw her. Aryan still tells her she looks beautiful because to him what she wears doesn't matter. But when Imlie overhears Narpita's excitement about her getting dolled up for her wedding, she realizes how much hope and dreams are entwined not just in the rituals itself, but with the bride and her appearance as well. After that, for every ritual she decks up in the best finery without a fight. Aryan doesn't care what she wears but cannot help being enamored by her beauty as his bride as well. But after each ritual she would go back to her kameez.
She made a point at their reception about her 'pehchaan' and her clothes, when Aryan unintentionally pushed the wrong buttons by calling her Mrs Aryan Singh Rathore. We were subjected to a long winded episode about her not giving in to the expectations of being the wife of Aryan Singh Rathore, a billionaire and just being herself. She refused to bow down to Narpita's expectation, as well, at the time. Aryan rightly understood the subtext behind her actions and supported her in front of the guests, because again he couldn't care less about her choice of clothes. But another major thing is that, that was the last time she wore that kameez "her kapas ki pehchaan". She felt wearing her kameez was a protest against Aryan's forcefully marrying her and taking away her choices, her rights and her identity. But he took away that victory as well by supporting her in her choice of dress. So she wore what a new bride is "supposed" to wear after that. All decked up to the nines.
But today, when Aryan gave her choices back. Asked her, in fact, not to come back to him. To not be in the forced marriage. She is confused about what signals she would be sending him, by her actions. She doesn't feel comfortable going back to her old 'pehchaan' anymore. She had proclaimed herself Aryan's wife few hours back to gang of murderers fearlessly. And the next moment Aryan was asking her to go back to being just Imlie. Like she said, she had wanted a choice for so long that now she doesn't even know what to do with it. Or what exactly her choices are. She wants to be his wife, but more than that she wants him to want her to be his wife. Whereas for Aryan her clothes were never part of her pehchaan as his wife or not. For Imlie, that had been the case. She didn't want him to think that by wearing that kameez she was going back to being just Imlie, and was choosing not to be his wife. Hence, the unwanted explanation.
Gosh Ye to essay ban gaya. Hope I make sense! It was long ramble.
