I'm sure whoever you've seen has suggested sleep hygiene? You mentioned you're a lawyer so workload and stress must impact your life.
Sleep hygiene is about setting a schedule to regulate sleep, no blue light for atleast an hour or so before bed (that means literally all electronics), avoid caffeine before a certain time, if you can't sleep then get out of bed to do something and then get back into bed (this stops your body from conditioning itself to be awake in bed). You can also try physical exercise, preferably in the morning, to help regulate your body.
If they've given you melatonin, then your body can get used to it and doesn't work as well. I, personally dislike melatonin, but it is helpful.
As for stress, if you're experiencing it, exercise, breathing techniques, imaging yourself in a place you like and describing the senses of that place (ex: beach, so you describe the feel of sand, warmth of sun, taste of coconuts etc), meditation, positive affirmation stuff like that helps.
Those are the basics we can do without pharmaceutical intervention but otherwise it's really important you sleep! As you know 😳
