Aww Reshu that was so lovely, sweet, sad, painful...and so much more. The way you portrayed George's pain and emotions and for that matter everyone's pain and emotions was very well done.

This was one part that I missed so much in the books. JK Rowling could have been a bit more liberal in showing some aftermath effects of war. That's why I chose to write this OS. You probably might have guessed what's coming up after this. 😉

Salutations Potterheads! I'm back with an OS after a long long time. This was vis di's request. I'm sorry vis di for being late, I got quite busy and even had to take break from writing anything for sometime.

This OS shows the search of Hermione's parents in Australia and the revival of their memories. In short, a joyous reunion of a little family. I'm posting it as 2 posts to make it easy to read.

*********

Joyous Reunion

Hermione's anxiety made her skin numb as she and Harry made the arrangements to leave the next afternoon. Ron would be arriving sometime soon and they decided to have dinner along with Ron. Hermione couldn't help but repeatedly think about how beautifully Harry had handled George last month at the Burrow. She had seen Ron's desperation to bring his brother around but Harry had done with so much patience and calmness. How was he doing it? She thought.

"A penny for your thoughts, Hermione?" asked Harry

"Oh, that's nothing Harry!" Harry raised his eyebrows. "Well, I was just thinking about the other day at the Burrow."

"What about it?" Harry asked, puzzled.

"How did you do it, Harry? When everyone around was as desperate as to how to bring George around, it almost took you no effort at all to talk to him."

"Oh, oh" said Harry, lost in thought. "You know the answer, Hermione. People we love never really leave us."

"Hi guys" said Ron as he entered the kitchen at Grimmauld Place

"Hey Ron, how're you coming by?" asked Harry

"Yeah, somewhat better actually. Ginny's been crying all nights saying how she realized now that Fred had actually been so protective over her and things like that. Mum's having a hard time getting her around."

Harry felt his chest getting heavy, but he decided not to show it out. Minutes later, Kreacher announced that dinner was ready and the three of them had a quiet dinner. Harry suddenly felt an unknown fatigue creep in with all its force, and so he wished the other two and headed straight to Sirius's room. Minutes later, he fell asleep.

*****

Ron could easily read Hermione's downcast face that clearly indicated her worry. Harry had told him that Hermione had been staying up some nights looking up the counter spell. There were distinct dark rings orbiting her pretty brown eyes. She had creases on her forehead and the fatigue screaming from her face masked her to be older than she actually was. Ron was appalled at seeing her.

"Hermione, you look hideous!" Ron exclaimed. "Harry's been saying that you've been keeping up on some nights"

"Of course, Ron I have to do it. I can't play with my parents. One mistake and I'll lose them forever" Hermione said, her voice close to breaking.

"Calm down, Hermione. You'll do it." Ron reassured her and held her face in his palms. Her skin tone looked even duller and her eyes seemed puffier. The usually sane Hermione was close to a breakdown.

"Will I?" Hermione asked softly looking into his sapphire blue eyes, their faces close to each other.

"By all means" said Ron, looking back at her eyes and Hermione hugged him, her face buried into his chest.

******

Hermione had never felt more comforted than while feeling the gentle touch of his fingers and the warm look of his eyes. There was always something about the ginger haired guy that drew her to him. Now staying in his warm embrace was like the happy memory to a demented heart. It was nearing midnight and she didn't feel like coming out of his embrace. She wanted to stay there forever, in his arms treasuring his gentle touch and living in his presence. She felt Ron gently stroking her hair and kissing her head lovingly from time to time. She buried her face deep into his chest and suddenly felt sharp pang of emotions rising in her chest. All the things that had caused her pain and happiness stormed towards her again- Harry's sacrifices, Harry's brotherly love for her, her hard fought decision to send her parents away, the heart-breaking fight with Ron in the forest and the fear of what lay ahead grappled her and she found herself giving in to it slowly. She didn't make an attempt to stop herself. She let the raw emotions take control of her and play with her heart. She couldn't remember when she was last in someone's warm embrace and she finally gave in. Sometime later, he felt two powerful hands gently lift her up and cleared her blurred vision.

"I'm scared" Hermione told Ron, her voice shaking madly

"Why should you?" Ron asked gently

"Spell...parents..." she stammered and before she could complete, Ron held her face in his palms and pressed his lips gently against hers. It felt just like the kind of solace she needed. Throughout the wizarding war she had kept her emotions at check because Harry had needed her and Ron more than anything. She simply didn't want to demoralize Harry by breaking down emotionally from time to time, for Ron once, when Harry wasn't around, had told her about Harry confiding in him the way he felt when he saw Hermione through an ordeal and about how much she meant to Harry. Hermione felt her walls break once again even as Ron was kissing her, as she Ron's words about Harry came back to her and she broke once again. She loved them both, Harry and Ron. Harry was her best friend and Ron, her best friend and the love of her life. She wasn't sure if she felt weak but she knew when she came out of it, she'll be stronger. In fact, one does need to cry out in order to create a bigger room for the impending traumas and she believed that crying does not make one weak. She slowly held Ron and kissed him back. Pulling away, she held his face closer to hers and let herself recover.

"Blimey, Hermione you need some bloody sleep" Ron said, smiling lightly. He continued, "How're you feeling?"

"Loads better" Hermione smiled, wiping her face with her sleeve.

They sat together for some more time in Regalus's room. Ron made sure Hermione had slept and went to join Harry in Sirius's room before falling into a deep sleep.

*******

The next day went silently with each of them packing their clothes and other necessities to leave in the afternoon. Both breakfast and lunch went quietly. Harry almost had to push the food down Hermione's throat as she claimed she didn't feeling like eating. A couple of minutes after some last minute checking, they held hands together and disapparated.

"Bloody hell!" exclaimed Ron, as they apparated at Sydney.

The towers seemed to be stretching to the sky, as though wanting a secret appointment with it. The weather was a cold June weather, with the snow from the previous night covering the alleyway like a blanket. The streamlined view of the birds flying decorated the fading blue sky. They were where they wanted to reach, but the biggest question lay ahead of them. How to locate Wendell and Monica Wilkins? By this time they had reached a small caf where they decided to snack in a bit. Hermione was in no mood. Anxiety was overwhelming. Ron was gobbling up and she stared at him as though telling you're not helping, Ron!

"So what are we going to do now?" asked Ron

"I don't know. I haven't the faintest idea." said Hermione, sighing.

"Do you remember exactly when they might have landed here?" asked Harry. Hermione nodded.

"Very well" said Harry and told them both the plan.

"That's a brilliant idea, Harry!"

"Something for a change!" taunted Ron

"Tis not funny, Ron."

***********

Harry, Ron and Hermione gave up for the day as it was almost past sunset. They stayed in a hotel that night. Ron was the first to wake up in the morning. He found Hermione still sleeping on her recliner, a book containing the counter spell for the memory charm lying open on her lap. Harry was peacefully sleeping. You deserve it mate, he thought. Harry hadn't had a peaceful sleep for nearly 4 years due to the unbreakable connection that existed between him and Voldemort. The very connection was what Voldemort had used to manipulate his thoughts and ultimately take away Sirius Black- someone closest to a parent that Harry had ever had. Having been so close to Harry for 7 years, he had seen many ghastly things which anyone at a tender teenage year could possibly not imagine. He was glad to have a friend like Harry who had been through so much yet managed to smile and be there for him and Hermione. Only last month had he and Hermione been to his house to speak to his family about Fred, more precisely to George. George had been making every attempt to come out ever since. I'd forever be grateful to both of you. He thought of Fred and felt his eyes glaze. I miss you Fred!

"You're up so soon?"

Harry's voice made him snap out of his reverie.

"Eh? Oh yeah. Woke up soon?" said Ron as though disoriented. Harry did not miss Ron's eyes dancing painfully to the mourning song in his heart. He knew how Ron must be feeling. Harry himself had been a tender age of 1 when he'd lost his parents but at that time he never knew any emotions. As days grew by, he had perceived the reality- the hard reality. He'd never forget the stabbing pain he felt in his chest, when he saw Sirius disappear into the veil. No! He didn't want to think about it now. He had already been having enough thoughts about Sirius many times a day. He missed him so much, and then there was Mrs Weasley who had more or less played the role of a mother to him all these years and the moment he had stepped into Ron's house for the first time, he had realized what mother love is like. Nothing in the world could banish the love he had for the Weasley family and Hermione.

"What is it, Ron?"

Ron sighed, wiping away his tears and smiled a painful smile from the corner of his mouth.

"I'm trying my best, mate but I can't seem to get rid of his thoughts." he choked

"I know Ron, but Fred wouldn't want you like this", said Harry. Ron nodded lightly, stifling back his sobs. "Remember, he is always in your heart" Harry said, throwing his arm around Ron's shoulder. "Come on, Ron. Hermione needs us now.", and Ron hugged Harry and Harry patted comfortingly on his back.

"Good morning both of you" said Hermione, "Early morning, what's up?" she asked Harry.

"Oh that's nothing!" said Harry, but the look on his face made it clear to Hermione and she thought she'd better not mention it. They pulled apart the curtains and let the mild rays of the sun light up the room. Soon, after a quick breakfast, they hired a cab and headed straight for the Sydney International Airport.

******

They hurried past a posh looking building which Hermione told them as the Queen Victoria Building. It rose up above the other buildings and looked very welcoming and new. "It was built in the 19th century and was used as a shopping complex. Later it got decayed and finally it has been renovated recently". The sky was clear and the mild humid breeze brushing past them sent refreshing waves down their spines. Clearly Sydney was beautiful in its own way. Harry loved the sight of it.

"Honestly Hermione, how is it that you know everything?"

"Just because you don't read, doesn't mean nobody else does"

"Oh shut up now! There's the airport I suppose" said Harry.

They paid the driver and headed for the inquiry desk. Hermione did the talking

"Excuse me. Can you please tell me if the two here arrived on any day between July 21 and July 23, 1997? They're my parents and I'm looking for them."

After much persuasion, Hermione got the details and thanked the person at the desk profusely. Her anxiety and excitement was growing. She didn't know to control them. She met Harry and Ron, and told them that they had landed in Sydney on July 22 and hired a cab.

"Very well, then. That settles it. Now we inquire at the cab desk."

"Are you mental? Harry, Hermione's parents landed here almost a year ago. There would be an effing large amount of passengers every other day. How do you expect them to remember their faces?"

"It's the only chance we've got, Ron. I'm having a hunch that they might've registered at the cab desk."

"Well then."

The three headed to the cab desk and again Hermione did the talking again.

"Holy Dooley! Let me check Sheila!" said the person at the desk. He typed something on his keyboard and then said, "Imma have good oil for ya! They headed off here." And the man at the desk gave her the address.

Hermione's heart jumped with elation on this piece of information, "Thank you so much!"

Hermione was excited all the way. Harry and Ron didn't interrupt her, but rather kept smiling. They just let her be happy, not knowing that a disappointed awaited them.

*****

As their cab passed past the Opera House, it looked to them like the most royal and etch class piece of architecture they had ever seen. Hermione told them its history. "...this building was officially opened after about 15 years of construction. But the cost was too heavy and ultimately the designer had to resign" The Opera House was magnificent and a truly classical piece of architecture.

"Whoa!" exclaimed Harry.

"Hermione! Do you ever have some vacancy in that brain of yours?!"

"Oh no, stop it now!" said Harry, trying hard not to sound too snappy as Hermione was already worried about her parents.

Half an hour later, they reached the address that the inquiry desk had given them. The area was well in the heart of Sydney. The winter cold was setting in. The temperature was around 16 degrees. They decided to get a quick lunch by the caf and so they went in there. They sat there for some time. Hermione didn't eat although Ron and Harry insisted on her doing so. They headed back to the address. Harry rang the doorbell. Hermione waited tensely, holding Ron's hands and squeezing it from time to time. The silence made her uncomfortable and dubious. No response. Harry tried again. No response. Hermione went closer to the window and pointed her wand at the window, and whispered "Alohomora". The window slowly opened without making noise. She peeked inside and found no sign of life. She again whispered "Homenum Revelio" and waited. No response. She slumped down in disappointment.

"Why is it happening? I want my parents" she sobbed. Ron held her and Harry sat beside her. Hermione was so desperate.

"Listen Hermione, we've just started looking for them. They might have shifted somewhere. Let's try asking the neighbours out here" suggested Ron

The questioning revealed that the couple had shifted about a month or two ago to the country side named Leura, which was 90 kilometres west of Sydney. They thanked the neighbour profusely and headed back to their hotel. Hermione was still dull with desperation and Ron was doing his best to cheer her up.
