Well HP is more of an entertaining flick rather than the Oscar hobnobbing flick. What it might lack in awards it more than makes up in popularity. Lets just see if DH II can pull of a Return of the King though, that would be nice.

As much as I love Harry, art direction should go to Alice. The imagination in that was stunning.

Even though the animation bit in HP was awesome, I really think the award should go to Alice in Wonderland... the entire film had such beautiful visuals :)

Frankly, the HP movies aren't very well-made movies. Any one who hasn't read the books will have a hard time understanding what's going on. The movies add/delete things randomly, making things incredibly inconsistent.

Coming to the technical aspect...y'know, with a franchise like HP, you at least expect some good works on cinematography, art direction, editing, music, etc, and the films fail each time. Sure they are not bad...but c'mon, they're not great either. Compare HP's visuals with that of LoTR, even PoTC - HP is way down the line. Baring Hedwig's theme, and the slightly 'dark' lighting in Half Blood Prince, the music and cinematography aren't that great either.

And Daniel Radcliffe can't act, and I still say this. He is wooden and expressionless. The only two scenes where I thought he showed potential are in the possession scene in OoTP, and the Felix Felicis scene in HBP. Emma can act decently when it comes down to it, and she has greatly improved, but she often overdoes her part with melodramatic tones. Rupert is the only consistent one in the series. And I'm not very fond of Michael's portrayal of Dumbledore either.

The only reason why HP grosses so much is because of the hype surrounding the books, which are definitely deserving of it, but the movies are not.

^^ I agree with most of what you've said there... true, Daniel isn't a great actor but I still think he does a good job... that's where we disagree each time 😆 And I'm not too fond of Michael's portrayal of Dumbledore either...
