yes or no ???? I believe no because if the things are like chalk and cheese then why compare since they will have nothing in common..I think the main reason people compare is because HP and Twilight took the literary world by storm by esp involving teens to read...because most teens my age dont like to read...but right now i my school 75% of the population has either a Twilight book or Any of the HP in their hand at all times....this shows the powerful impact it has.

dont u all feel the styles of writing are totally diff
the theme is compeltely diff then why ??? Again I feel the reason is because people feel as if Meyer is the next Rowling (IMO she is not yet) but another reason in Rober Pattinson who plays Edward in the movie and Cedric Diggory in HP...I dont know why but now people tend to compare "hotness" of Dan and Rob😕

why compare?????

A very very intersting topic indeed and loads that I have got to say and express, I would come back here and answer in leisure!

Food for thought indeed! 😊

though they have similar themes and genres, and probably the fact that both are written by females, the styles are totally different. and i have read a few opinions...people are not comparing the main things, they are comparing unnecessary stuff, lyk the filming, actors and stuff. when that TOTALLY depends on totally different aspects.

but as far as i think...a comparison is not a valid point AT ALL!

Well, I don't get why it's so bad to compare Twilight and HP (unless it turns into a fight). Comparing isn't always a bad thing.
Sometimes people compare just to see what the two books could've had and what they did have.
If it starts turning into fights and starts bashing characters then maybe comparing isn't good.
Comparing one person to another in a way showing that one is lower is rude and offensive to fans, but people can't help it.
A forum is almost incomplete without comparison because without it, it doesn't let people show as much of their opinion as they would've.
Just my point of view!
For me, HP and Twilight are equal! Twilight gets a higher rank in romance and HP gets a higher rank in a SORT OF horror using magic.

I hope I didn't offend anyone and if I did I'm very sorry.

"Is it fair to compare HP and Twilight???"

no, absolutely not. No way. SM can never be the next JKR and neither can twilight be the next HP.
is it fair for these two books to be compared do they come on the same level...??

NO, def. not. HP and Twilight are at completely different levels. SM has still alot of work to do with her writing, whereas JKR is a pure genius.

yes or no ????

Its ok to compare HP with books that are at its' level, like Lord of the Rings and others, but not twilight.
dont u all feel the styles of writing are totally diff

The style is different, but the theme is completely different. HP is third person POV and twilight is 1st person POV, which is one of the many reasons of why I like HP way more than Twilight.

why compare?????

No one should compare HP and Twilight as they are completely different, in genres and styles of writing.

I agree it's NOT fair to compare these two books...I feel, in general, these two books are compared because of two reasons:
1. Book sales (even though I agree that HP is far ahead than twilight in this but still twilight is definitely quite popular)
2. Robert Pattinson was a character in the HP movie as well as he going to be the lead in the twilight one.
I think these are the only 2 reasons people tend to compare these books. Otherwise, there is no other reason since the books are totally different from each other in terms of writing style, genre (I agree both are fantasies but HP seems more real somehow because even though regarded as children's books, it sums up the most poignant issues occuring in today's world) and overall effect it leaves on the audience.

No. In all fairness, it is not right to compare two books or styles of writing. Liking a book is relative , simply because the reader either relates to the content or the author or the characters at some level or no.
Some of like us HP series while the other like Twilight.

Except for the fact that both the books have the story based in world that are considered different from the normal, the books do not have anything common. If one is a tale of good over evil and the journey boy finding himself , the other is a dark romance.

If romantic moments were a part of HP series at a later stage, romance is the very base of the Twilight series, right from the word get go, albeit a dark romance!

The two books would have to be read and appreciated for they are individually without comparison and any comparison would only mar the enjoyment of the books itself and more so the essence of what they are conveying at a deeper level!

i have been reading HP and been crazy abt it since a last 6 years i have practically lived my teenage life with it.....

Have u guys heard of a woman....an old woman missing her train b'cuz she was too buzy reading HP

bt i dnt think twilight is meant for everyone..
its a teenage sensation..and i dnt think it can move further ..this is nt to offend any fan or anything....
bt u dnt find teenage love stories common with everyone???? do u??
and nw cuming to writing styles...they are diff....
rowling is one ......very talented writer...and the way she has carried...... HP is awesum....
her plots.....
i agree she created her own world..and we are living in it atleast i m!....
