She came to Mumbai two years ago to become a part of the telly industry and today, she is the leading lady of a serial. Snigdha Akolkar is yet another familiar face in Oshiwara.
She plays the female protagonist Shyamlee on the Sahara One programme Hare Kaanch Ki Choodiyan.
Speaking about her character she says, "I can relate a lot to Shyamlee because she is strong and straightforward. She fights for what she believes is right."
Apart from the serial, Snigdha has also shot two pilot serials for Saira Banu Production House and Karan Films Production House. "These projects are still in the pipeline and I am really excited about them," she says.
At a time when most TV stars use serials as a stepping-stone into the film industry, Snigdha seems more interested in the ad world. "I haven't featured in a single ad as yet. I'm really keen to endorse a good product. It's not like I'm not interested in films, but I don't want to be an unknown face that comes and goes with an inconspicuous film," she says.
Following the success of her serial, Snigdha has now been bombarded with offers for other programmes.
"But since I do a daily soap, it won't be possible for me to take up any other daily," clarifies the 24-year old.
Snigdha relates an amusing situation that led to her bagging the role in Hare Kaanch Ki Choodiyan.
"I was auditioning for some show when someone from PPC Production saw me and asked me to try out for them as well. They interviewed me seven times after the auditions and I was sure that they were wasting my time. I felt it wasn't going to work out. But finally, when they told me that I was selected I was ecstatic," she says.
The actress is also a trained Kathak dancer and she says she never intended to get into acting. "I am quite lucky," she says, adding, "I didn't have to struggle a lot. If not an actress, I would have been a CA today," she adds.
