"Is a life worth living, without no one to love and to be loved in return?":Zena Joy Pym
Arpita waited till the police left before hurrying to the trapdoor, her actions urgent....In the room below, surrounded by her husband's gang members, she tried to take care of his wound. The thick flow of blood proclaimed it was no ordinary wound. Arpita hastily wiped her tears away and tried to revive Avdesh, her hands lightly patting his cheek, stroking his forehead all the while begging him to open his eyes.
Bhauji rushes in her eyes wide with unshed tears at seeing Avdesh so injured and weak. She brushes away the gang members and sits next to Arpita, both now trying to revive him. Bhauji on hearing Arpi's cries responds caustically, that her tears were not that special for him to wake up to..... She then tries to wake him pleading with Panditji to do something....he replied saying that there are police guards at the gate, so they cannot take Avdesh to the hospital. Bhauji then leaves to come up with a plan.
"Live the life you've dreamed": Henry David Thoreau
Left alone with her husband, Arpita ineffectually tries to get him to open his eyes, her own streaming....a few drops fall on Avdesh's cheeks and he finally opens his eyes...There was a world of regret and sorrow in his eyes and then his voice as he tells her that by falling in love with him, her life isn't any better...he then indicates her tears – between them lay the memory if how much her tears hurt him – and Arpita hastily wipes them away. She follows Avdesh's direction and gets a knife for him to take the bullet out...he couldn't so she tries but gives up when he is in agony.....Bhauji comes again, this time brushing Arpita aside she takes Avdesh's head in her lap and offers comfort. Avdesh turns to her and tells her he would rather die than be jailed...Arpita looks on in shock at his words.... he then slides into unconsciousness again.
Determination fills Arpita she will let her husband die nor will she let him get caught by the police. She makes Bhauji listen to her plan, even when the other woman was dismissive.....the plan of decoy worked beautifully, as the police guard follow Bhauji...RV getting a call hotfoots it to the hospital Bhauji goes to.....meanwhile Arpita and Sarvan in a burka disguise leave for the nearest hospital...Avdesh cradled in Arpita's lap...throughout the journey, she does not stop in her effort to revive her husband, once in her panic she even attempts to pump his heart....At the other hospital, RV realises they have been fooled and he redirects the search for Avdesh Singh Thakur.
"What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate": Bible
At the hospital Arpita is in, the doctors refuse to operate on the basis that it's a police matter...Arpita begs and speaks eloquently of being in their debt for the rest of her life, but her husband must be saved....even when Sarvan loses his temper and brandishes a gun, Arpita speaks softly and pleadingly, her heartache clear for the world to see. At last the doctors agree and Avdesh is wheeled into the operating theatre.....Arpita's and Avdesh's hand cling for a moment, fingers reluctant to let go of each other....
My thoughts:
This is an emotional time for Arpita and Bhauji. They both love Avdesh and want to see him well and so work together, but the undercurrents of hostility is still there...Bhauji is able to brush away the gang but she could not Arpita, without it looking very strange so kept quiet...yet her words and the caustic tone of her voice, when Arpita pleads with Avdesh to open his eyes, showed that the lid on her real feeling is rattling...why should Arpita matter more to Avdesh than herself?...she was not there, later, to see that Avdesh did indeed react to his wife's pain and tears, that they brought him back from the edge of unconsciousness. Then later when Bhauji seems almost helpless and lost as to what could be done, it is Arpita who took the initiative, as she always does when it comes to Avdesh. His wellbeing and safety is first and foremost in her mind and so it is here. Police guards did not matter to her, her husband would receive medical care one way or another.
I have always said that Avdesh looks upon Bhauji as a maternal figure or as an older sister and he proved it in this episode. When Bhauji see's Arpita with the knife, she rushes forward and take Avdesh's head in her lap (making Arpita move as well by the way)...Avdesh looks at her and said bhauji, I would rather die than go to jail....it is like a child telling it's mother something so that she could remember or help him with it because she understood....Avdesh could not tell this to Arpita because she had made it clear she would save her husband no matter what, because of her love....he also understood that. These two women play a very important part in his life, both fulfil a role.
As for Avdesh, regret is eating in him...regret for what he has reduced Arpita to...the dream they saw remained unfulfilled when they fell in love.....instead of love and laughter filling their time, it has been tears and pain.....instead of proudly holding each other's hand in open, they are now reduced to hiding in the dark, lying and cheating to save his life....I think Arpita's response to that would be 'where there is love, there is life'....that is the strength of her love.
I am hoping when he recovers he makes some changes in his life, to give back something to Arpita.....he may not be able to change overnight, but just enough to give her some hope.... She has courage, enough to walk side by side with him, if he lets her. She was a tigress tonight protecting her own, and she will continue to do so for the rest of their lives together....most importantly, she is using her strength and courage to guide him back to the path he left at 14yrs of age....to show him another way of living.... It is a slow process but to my thinking, she has cracked his wall already....
I would love to hear your thoughts on this.😊
