Late latif is haazir 😎 * tuntuna bajjing in BG, Gullu can keep the drum rolls 😆*
Okay - first of all, Srushee, you are one heluva topic maker! There's so much to the episodes and their detailing in terms of representing this society and their customs, but reading your updates is like getting ever the more side details. There are things, like the words of the aarti, or the the Panch Mahaboot concept she uses, which I don't comprehend relevance for half the times, until I read your updates - so thank you for doing these, you're absolutely adding to the richness. 👏
Moving on - I have to say this episode was like the turning point in so many ways. Most importantly, in explaining the whole beyond human, yet so human idea of Kesar fell in love with Gulaal and how. We all keep harping about how Kesar's love for Gulaal was not about her attitude, or beauty, or child like spunk, or n other things about her that can draw in A, B, ... Z people! For Kesar, it was just Gulaal. And this episode really defines the moment that happens to him! He's been this little bratty kid who is watching - from the eyes of innocence exposed to harsh realities yet sheltered in a strange way - the world around him falling apart. He understands the fact, at times he also understands the underlying tones and consequences, but mostly, his perception of this state of Talsagra, its people and animals, his life, his people, his routine - and the drastic change in it with the shortage of water is like being exposed to a flame in a partial manner. He can feel the brunt, and it scorches him, scars him at places and points - but his understanding remains yet, however mature for his age, only a tad better than what a 10 year old can do! For him, Gulaal has suddenly accomplished something that no one did or could. Everyone looks at Gulaal like a miracle come true - but for Kesar and his naive impressionable mind, this is like a Santa Claus belief come true! Perhaps his innocence of age is what does it - because its the age where one so easily and readily believes in miracles - and yet it is also in this age that he has witnessed some very dire showdowns - for him believing the miracle is easy, but that simultaneously results in the effect of the miracle sinking in deepest for him! When a mature adult leads his life chasing a dream - like Vasant - he can be considered partially a lunatic. Not someone Kesar's age. His belief in a miracle - especially one consolidated like this - will not be countered, because he's just a child, so he;s not holding onto it, fighting a resistance as Vasant does. His absorption of this sight, his Santa Claus dream come true - is so pure and unadulterated, so unmarked by the 'wisdom' of the world - that even though its a miracle, on his end, there isn't an iota of incredulity of its coming true! When a little child is told about Santa, he listens wide eyed in this awed manner, because he doesn't possess the kind of 'logic' to counter it, or be skeptical. He's manages to be engulfed by its wonder and splendor in such a complete manner hence, because his mind is still untarnished by the distinction that stands between possible and impossible, and he can only, plainly, completely bask in the glory of imagining something so amazing can exist, does exist. That's what happens to Kesar here - and his awe of the moment grows and grows and grows, until it becomes this endless love in his heart - which is so human, because of where it all begun and how!
I love how you throw in the analogy here Srushti - about Kesar marveling how the engine Gulaal manages to pull on all those dabbas to her team - cute, but how easy to believe as a thought in his mind!
Everything else about the episode - the DOP's usual hit with unusual brilliance, GV bond, Dushyant's continuing grey streak, Giga's hollow... ! This PB makes me like and dislike her all at once. I grudge her every time she's so empathetic here, to not have been the same for her other son, and his life. I wish they'd retained this actress! Anyway...!
Thanks for the post again, and of course, the amazing CAPS!
Geeshu - another well drawn paralle 👏
