Unfortunately, he has been someone who has taken Sai and his kids for granted. Putting them on line of fire when he has to save someone else. Just because they are his family, takes the liberty of taking decisions on their behalf which are life changing and painful for them, without their knowledge or consent. And this process his deprioritises them. This is exactly what we see here. P is priority so automatically Sai and kids lose the priority. Though it is not a direct one but an action-reaction effect.
If he has no deal breakers, no promises or farz to fulfil he will be the best husband and father. But the moment there is one distraction he loses the focus on them. He is someone who cannot multi task and equally prioritise things.
Here, he knows Sai attempted suicide once. But that is past. P can attempt now. He is short sighted. Looks for short term fixes, and loses when it comes to long term solutions. SH track was perfect example. If Sada had not kidnapped Sai, he would have continued with SH for god knows how long.
