The foreshadowing by Virat's unconscious mind - A dream analysis.

A longggggggg ass post on Virat.😳

Virat's dream, that suddenly convinced him of the marriage with Sai. I think we haven't talked enough about this and I want to emphasize on how beautifully and logically crafted, written and performed is that dream and how meaningfully foreshadowing it is. Especially because, dreams often portray our internal desires and at times warns us against things that may trap us which we realize much later in our lives.

I study Psychology and often connect things I watch to do a character analysis (I am not a professional or an expert, just trying to learn.) This is one interesting observation I made every time I watched that scene;

The day Kamal Joshi died, when Virat dropped Sai off to her house from the safehouse, she accidentally was about to hug him, and that reduced him to blushing down and lowkey flirting with her about that ilaaj karwane aunga dialogue, and study his expressions in that shot, he had a daring face as if daring her to go on for the hug (Neil's brilliance once again) because as I have said before, I have felt he was sort of attracted to her since GC days which never came into surface because of her age and his infatuation for Pakhi and developed once they got married. In that scene, he didn't seem a bit awkward or worked up by it, instead he was low key blushing while his 'true love' had got married to his brother back in Nagpur and this Virat, since Gadchiroli days, we see only when he is with Sai.

Later post Kamal Joshi's death he is very confused and he sees this dream where SAI is hugging HIM. He isn't hugging her. This can be a manifestation of his internal desire, of Sai completing that incomplete hug that was left that day which appeared in his dream in a totally different context because often dreams have sequences which are connected from different instances of realities and imaginations, secret desires and scenarios. That dream was a beautifully crafted one- with Virat's internal dual between his responsibilities and what he understands to be love, his promise to Kamal Joshi(on the deathbed) his father's order to go for his duty (that phone call to Ninad in hospital), Pakhi's voiceover (his promise to Pakhi) and Sai in trouble (Sai's suicide). And him hugging her? His internal desire (from Id of his mind which is suppressed by his subconscious and conscious levels of mind)for her to complete that hug which is caused by his attraction to her which he himself doesn't realize and pushes into the unconscious levels of his minds.

Another interesting observation here is;

Virat says; "Waise bhi baba mujhe ek aur vaade ne apne zanjeeron mein jakada hua hai."

And his face has this disgusted look on his face. Plus there Pakhi's promise is shown to be a chain that bounds him, a chain that stops him and his face says he is disgusted of this.

And at times dreams tend to be things that we ourselves don't realize but is true about ourselves. That detail shows how Virat's deeper levels of consciousness already sees the promise as a grave wrong step he took in his life and something that is stopping him from going to Sai and getting that hug (in pleasure principal) which translates to Promise given to Pakhi stopping him from going and getting that love from Sai.

He himself didn't realize the promise that promise was an absurd and grave chain he tied on himself but his unconscious mind already had this realization, which was manifested as a dream and later as we saw, Virat falls in love with Sai and the infatuation he had for Pakhi burnt out and now, that Promise has tied him up from getting Sai's love which he yearns for. And the journey here for Virat, will be him breaking the chains of that promise he given to Pakhi which disgusts him and was baseless and absurd, and moving towards Sai whom he actually wants and loves and getting that love he yearns from her and giving her all the love he has and he couldn't because of that chain/the promise.

In a way, the makers showed the whole story of the show in that one dream sequence!
