I hate what Janvi is doing in this show. You cannot sit there and take whatever sexist rules someone throws at u just because you are a woman and "its ur job". Do we not already have enough indian woman dieing and suffering because of this kind of soch? 😡

Maybe she will magically, in just a few weeks or so, change her Sasur's ways of thinking and he will become totally open to woman rights. That's what usually happens...a man who is so engrossed in his life will suddenly be changed by his new bahu. Wah!

I hate the fact that they show women as submissive creatures in this show or in any other show really. I'm a feminist at heart and when I see these women relying so heavily on men, it just gets to me. The G girls are from a well off family, who has money and status, so surely they must have had a higher education. I'm not saying that money and status grant everyone education. I'm saying that they had better opportunities than a person who did have financial difficulties. Instead of implying their knowledge, they sit at home doing nothing. Saras handles the G business from home!!! How ridiculous is that? Gauri, an educated girl with a job pre-marriage, stops working post-marriage. The creatives and producers try to imply that a woman's job is still around her home and in her in-laws home after marriage, but it's not befitting todays time at all. They try to backpaddle progressive minds, so that women retreat from their education and succumb to domestic life only. Times have changed and so have women. Nowadays, a woman handles both her job and family together. Creatives should make women look empowering, so that the woman who watches GKLB everyday sees herself in them and vows to change herself.
Show makers know what kind of power they have with their tv serials, yet they don't use it efficiently and use it for the wrong reasons.

they people are showing the women power in wrong way.......in every show woman is suffering but thats not true........today women have given equal status with men. they move to office and not fixed to chula chownk only............today they dont wear the jewellery like jhanvi and i dont know whats the problem in jhanvi she has such good life in city why she want village.....why she is so interested in that boring village
characters like gauri are more dumb ..oh dear who in this world wear the specs like gauri....even not a child......
she is educated, rich and why she is not changing herself...she take the public comments and then cry and cry n only cry........
in serial character hardly any character belong to today society

Yes, it's so unrealistic the way they show women. I don't think any woman in this day and age is like that.

Lots of women are homemakers and choose to take time off to focus on kids or family business, but that doesn't mean they are completely submissive to in-laws and stupidly wag tails behind their husband.

This show has no concept called female empowerment or female self-respect. Terrible..

Not only that , the so called female empowerment that they show .........burning men , playing matches with tucked in saris , sleeping in courtyards in groups and accepting proven jerks as jamais with open eyes in the form of ' rishta ' [ Akash] , is the most incredulous , laughable and crappy funda ever shown in any TV show .

This show is outright sexist . And the women in it worship sexist men by going on their knees as if they belong to some sexist cult .

Gauri's situation is especially infuriating because she was WORKING for Akash and Devyani before. She had her degree and she was on her way to a successful career. If the story had just continued on that path, it would have been SO much better. Devyani was at one time a great role model for these useless betiyaan but even her character was sullied when she insisted Akash marry Gauri.

There are five daughters in that house. Why they all must have the exact same fate and lifestyle is beyond me. Women have so much more freedom than they did centuries ago, presumably when this serial takes place. As Rachna said, some women do choose to focus on their families but they don't behave like helpless sick puppies. They still command respect. There are some women who choose to work while raising their families, some women who choose to get married but not have children, some who choose NOT to get married but to have children, and some who do not get married nor have children. With so many different possibilities, they always end up going back to the same thing: Marriage is the center of a woman's universe and no matter what the circumstances, she must focus on this and this alone and nothing else.

The only thing I think they are trieing to show is that woman r considred weak and un capable of standing up for what they want to believe in, but betiyaan can actually stand up for themselves and fight for what is right, just like how the betiyaan in this drama do, and u know how the title is Ghar ki lakshmi betiyaan, thats another idea, all Yuvraj did was bring disgrace and sadness to the family, but the daughters brought happiness and etc.

What do others think?
