Location: PRESIDENTIAL SUITE, CITY HOSPITAL, NEW DELHI
Once everyone left, Geet started thinking aloud, "Abb sabko mera sach pata chal gaya." (Now everyone knows my truth.)
"Hey Kanhaji abb mai kya karun?" (Oh God what should I do?)
"Haan mai ghar chodh kar bhaag jaati hoon." (I will runaway from home.)
"Agar mai bhaag jaaon toh apne pyaar, apne Maan ko bhi apne se dur kar doongi." (If I runaway, I can be faraway from my love, My Maan!)
"Geet tum kitna bhi chaho, abb mujhe apne se dur nahi kar sakteen. TUM MERI PATNI HO!" (Geet it doesn't matter where you go, you can't be far from me. Geet you are MY WIFE!) Maan said who had come in when Geet was self talking.
"Dekhiye, iss shaadi ka gawah koi nahi. Hum dono ke parivaarwalon ko bhi iss shaadi ke baare mein patta nahi. Meri maaniye toh kissi ladki se jo apki hasiyat aur pasand ki ho, usse shaadi kar lijiye." (Listen, there is no witness to this marriage. Even our families don't know about this. Take my advice you get married to a girl of same status as your family and whom you like.)
"Dusari shaadi??? Kya Geet tum apne pati ko jail bhijwaogi?" (Another marriage? You want me to go to prison?)
"DUSARI SHAADI? JAIL? Mai aapko kaise jail bhijwa sakti hoon?" (ANOTHER MARRIAGE?? JAIL? How can I send you to jail?)
"Aur nahi toh kya? Ek patni ke hote huye dusari patni laana ghair kanooni hai." (Why not? In presence of one wife, if I get another, its illegal. Hence, I'll definitely go to jail.)
"Magar yeh patni aapke jeevan mein zyaada din ke liye nahi hai." (But your this wife will not be for long in your life!)
"KHABARDAAR! Jo tumne apni marne ki baat kari toh." (DON'T YOU DARE, talk of your death!) Maan came near Geet's bed and thundered.
"Aap mere kaaran apni zindaagi kyun narak banna rahe hain? Iss beemari kaa koi ilaaj nahi. Aap mujhe jaane dijiye." (Why are you ruining your life because me. There is no cure for this disease. Please let me go.) Geet finally broke down unable to act stronger any longer.
Maan sat on the bed saying,"Bass Mishty! Aur nahi! Shhh...chup! Maan ke hote hue Maan ki Geet ko kuch nahi hoga." (While Maan is there nothing will happen to his Geet.) Maan was continously rubbing Geet's back trying to calm her and then gathered Geet in his arms trying to console her.
Geet clung to Maan crying her heart out. When Geet had finally calm down, Maan asked, "Geet tumhei kab patta chala ki tum mujhse pyaar karti ho?" (Geet, when did you realise that you love me?)
"Pyaar? Aapse?" (Love? You?)
"Tum chupana bhi chaho toh chupa nahi sakteen." (You may try to hide as much as you want but you cannot hide.)
"Matlab?" (What do you mean?)
"Tumne apne pyaar kaa izhaar mere aur humare parivaarwalon ke saamne kar diya hai." (You have confessed your love for me in front of me as well as our families.)
"Hey Bhagwan! Yeh maine kya kar diya?" (Oh God! What have I done?) Geet was horrified.
"Toh question evade karna bandh karo aur mere sawaal kaa jawaab do." (Stop evading my question and answer it.)
"Woh...woh..." Geet was stammering and blushing.
When Maan pulled her towards him and said, "Agar tumne jaldi se jawaab nahi diya toh mai kuch aisa karonga ki tum laal sharmaane ki wajeh se nahi magar kissi aur wajeh ho jaaogi." (If you don't give answer to me quickly, I will do something which will make your cheeks go red not due to shyness but due to something else.)
"Mai aapko jawaab nahi de rahi. Aapko jo karna hai kar lijiye!" (Fine I will not answer your question. Do whatever you want!) Geet turned her face away from Maan peeved.
"Theek hai toh mai tumhei tab tak kiss karta rahonga jab tak tum mere kisses se laal nahi ho jaateen." (Fine I'll keep on kissing you, until you become red with my kisses.)
Geet pushed Maan and tried to get up from bed saying, "Yeh kya badtameezi hai?" (I will not tolerate this insolent behaviour!)
Maan pulled her back on bed and Geet's back landed on Maan's chest and Maan started nuzzling Geet's nape "Maine badtameezi abhi ki kahaan? Badtameezi toh abhi karonga." (Where have I been insolent till now? But now I'll be impudent.)
Geet finally gave in before she lost her senses and became a bundle of nerves. Moving a little away from Maan and taking a deep breath she said "Main jab aap se pehli baar RC ke office mein mili aur aap bina sach jaane mujh par bhadkne lage, mujhe laga ki aap bahut hi Sadhu, Khadus aur Ziddi hain. Mujhe aap bilkul ek "Dusht Danaav" lage." (When I first time saw you in RC ke office and you started yelling at me without knowing the truth. I thought you to be an arrogant, mannerless and stubborn man. I felt you are a complete "Heartless Devil".) Maan glared at Geet and she glared back. Then Geet continued, "Magar jab aapne uss din FIRE & ICE CLUB mein meri izzat bacchai toh maine apka ek naya roop dekha aur uss roop ne mujhe bahut aakarshit kiya. Charity function mein mai aapse apni izzat bacchane ke liye shukriya kehne waali thee magar aapne toh ulta mere charith ki dhajiyaan udha rahe the. Upmaan aur gusse mei maine bhi aapko jaali-khatti sunna di." (But when I saw you again at FIRE & ICE CLUB, trying to save my dignity and virtue, I started getting impressed and attracted by you. After the Charity function, I was going to come and thank you for saving my dignity and virtue, but you started maligning my character. Hearing you talking to me with disrespect and in my anger I also used some rude and hurting words for you.)
"Phir humari shaadi ho gayi!" (Then we got married.) Maan stated with a smile.
"Haan! Mere gussa abhi thaanda hua bhi nahi hua thaa ki aapne zabardasti bina meri marzi pooche meri maang bhar di aur mujhe mangalsutra pehna diya. Mujhe laga ki aap ke liye mai sirf yeh bezubaan jaanwar yaa bejaan kamre mein rakhi mezz, kursi yaa table lamp hoon. Aur aapke saath-saath mere apne maa-baap ne bhi meri iss beizzati ko shaadi samajhaa." (Yes. My temper had not even cooled when you forcibly without my consent filled my hair parting with vermilion and tied mangalsutra around my neck. I felt that I have been treated like a speechless animal or an inanimate furniture i.e. table, chair , table lamp etc. Besides you, even my own parents considered my this insult as a marriage ceremony.)
"Geet,I'm extremely sorry! Mai tumhei har din ek naye aadmi ke saath dekhta thaa aur meri possessiveness, jealousy aur insecurity badhti jaanti kyunki mujhe lagta thaa ki woh chhe aadmi tumhare boyfriends hain naa ki tumhare bhai! Geet mujhe tumse pehli nazar mei pyaar ho gaya thaa jab maine tumhein "Janamshtami" function par dance karte dekha thaa." (Geet,I'm extremely sorry! I was seeing you every time with a new man and my possessiveness, jealousy and insecurity would increase each time. I did not know that those six men are your brothers not boyfriends! Geet, I fell in love at the first sight with you at "Janamshtami" function when I saw you dance on stage.)
"KYA?" (What?)
"Main jitna tumhare paas aana chaha utna hi tum mujhe apne se dur kar deti theen. Phir mujhe pataa chala ki Dadimaa ne tumhare parents se tumhara haat Vicky ke liye maanga hai." (The more I wanted to come close to you, the more you would push me away from you. Then I came to know that Dadimaa has asked your hand for marriage with Vicky.)
"KYA? Yeh aap kya keh rahe hain?" (WHAT? What are you saying?)
"Yehi sach hai. Meri insecurity aur badh gayi. Mai soch hi raha thaa ki mai iss shaadi ko kaise rokhon ki tumhare parents aaye aur kaha ki tum aur tumhare bhai iss rishte ke liye tyaar nahi, iss liye Dadimaa meri / Vicky ki shaadi kaheen aur karaa dein." (This is true! My insecurity now increased ten folds. I was debating how to stop Vicky and your marriage, when your parents came saying that you and your brothers are not agreeing for this match so Dadimaa should fix my/Vicky's alliance elsewhere.)
"I'm totally confused. Dadimaa aapka yaa Vicky bhaiya kaa rishta layeen theen?" (I'm totally confused. Dadimaa had got marriage proposal for you or Vicky bhaiya?)
"Vicky kaa. Magar mai tumhei kissi aur ke saath dekh nahi sakta thaa iss liye maine Dadimaa se kaha ki woh tumhare parents se kehen ki mai dulha hoon jisse mai tumhare baare mein theek se jaan sakoon. Magar tumhein apne se har roz dur jaata dekh kar maine bina soche samjhe tumhari maang bhar di aur tumhei mangalsutra pehna diya. Mai sirf aur sirf tumhei apna jald se jald banna chahta thaa isse pehle ki tum Vicky yaa kissi aur ki dulhan bann jaao. Mai maanta hoon ki maine tumhei apna banne ka zariya galat chunna magar mai tumse saccha pyaar karta hoon. GEET, I LOVE YOU!" (Vicky's proposal. But I could not see you with anyone else so I asked Dadimaa to tell your parents that I'm the prospective bridegroom, so I can find out about you. But seeing you go away from me day by day, without thinking rationally on impulse I filled your hair parting with vermilion and tied mangalsutra around your neck. I just wanted to make you mine before Vicky or any another man made you his bride. I know the means I used to make you mine was wrong but my love for you is not false. GEET, I LOVE YOU!) Maan's eyes and voice were proof of his undying love.
Geet slowly got up from bed and went and stood a little distance away in deep thought. Maan did not stop her. Geet was totally quite and not talking at all. After sometime Maan went near Geet and placed his hand on her shoulder. Sensing Maan's touch, Geet turned and hugged Maan tightly crying bitterly. Geet's medical condition and strong medicines were making Geet extremely vulnerable and emotional!
"Aap mere liye itna tadap rahe the aur maine sirf apne swabhimaan ke baare mei socha. Agar aap mein attitude thaa toh mere mein bhi toh attitude thaa. Mujhe maaf kar dijiye!" (You were in so much pain and anguish for me and I was only thinking about my self-respect and pride. If you were showing attitude, so was I. Please forgive me.) Geet said breaking down and dropping on Maan's feet.
Maan made her stand and then made her sit on the bed saying, "Bass karo Geet, pati-patni ke beech mein "Sorry" ki koi jageh nahi. Tum jo chaho mujhe keh sakti ho." (Calm down Geet. There no need of sorry between husband and wife. You can say whatever you want to me.)
Wiping her tears, Geet said teasingly, "Theek hai! Mujhe yeh battaiye ki itne saal aap avivahit kaise rahe?" (Alright! Then tell me how come you didn't get married till now?)
"Avivahit? Geet please mere saamne itni khilasht (pure) Hindi matt bolo mere liye samajhna mushkil hai." (Geet please talk in simple Hindi that I can understand not in this tough and pure Hindi.)
"Aaj ke baad phir kabhi bhi Hindi ke baare mein yeh matt kehiyegaa. Warna jo apne Neel bhai-sa ka dil jeeta hai woh badal jayegaa." (After today, don't you dare talk about Hindi like this. The trust that you have won of Neel bhai-sa, you will be loose.)
"Ek tumhare Neel bhai-sa ka dil hi toh nahi jeet paaya." (Only your Neel bhai-sa's trust I have been unable to win.)
"Matlab?" (Meaning?)
"Geet iss baare mein hum naa baat karen toh?" (Geet can we please not talk about this?)
"Theek hai. Par aapne mere sawaal kaa jawab nahi diya." (OK. But please answer my question.)
"Kya?" (What?)
"Mujhe yeh battaiye ki itne saal aap bina shaadi kaise rahe?" (How come you didn't get married till now?)
"Tumse milne se pehale mujhe ladhkiyon se grihna (hate) thee. Mujhe lagta thaa ki sab ladkiyaan khudgarz hoti hain unhein sirf ismei interest thaa ki unko shaadi se kitna paisa milega? Mujhe aaj tak koi aisi ladki nahi mili jo Maan se pyaar kare. Sab MAAN SINGH KHURANA se aur uske paise se pyaar karti theen. Koi bhi meri Dadimaa, mere Dad aur mere bhai ko apni Dadimaa, Dad aur bhai nahi samjhati thee. Magar tumhei uss din stage par dance karte dekha aur meri duniya hi badal gayi. Tumhei dekhte hi mere dil ne kahaa ki TUM SIRF AUR SIRF MERI HO! Iss liye jab bhi Sid, Arnie yaa Yash tumhare kandhe par haath rakhte mere tann badan mein aag lag jaati thee. Agar mere baas chalta toh mai uss din hi Karan ko aisa sabak sikhta ki woh zindaagi bhar yaad rakhta, jab tumne usse apne fiance ke roop mein introduce karaaya thaa. GEET I CANNOT AND WILL NOT SHARE YOU!" (Geet, before I met you, I hated girls. I felt all girls are selfish, they are only bothered about how much money will they gain by marriage? I did not find any girl until I met you who would love Maan. Girl's were only interested in MAAN SINGH KHURANA and his money. No one thought of my grandmother, my father and my brother as their own. But that day when I saw you dancing on stage my whole life turned upside down. The moment I saw you, I felt you are only made for me. ONLY ME! That's why whenever Sid, Arnie or Yash would put their arms around you, my temper would rise sky high. If I had my way, I would have ripped that Karan limb from limb the day you introduced him as your fiance. GEET I CANNOT AND WILL NOT SHARE YOU!) Maan roared.
"MAAAN...!"
"Kya kaha? Phir se kehna." (What did you say? Say it again.) Geet did not understand what Maan meant."Mera naam dubara lo!" (Say my name again!) Maan came closer to Geet.
Geet nodded shyly, "Humare yahaan pati kaa naam nahi lete!" (In my family, we don't take husband's name.)
"Agar pati kehe toh bhi?" (Even if your husband asks you?) Geet nodded in negative. Maan came closer putting his arms on either side of Geet's head on the wall behind, and started gently kissing Geet's eyes, cheeks, nose, forehead making her bundle of nerves whose heart and brain was not in her control.
Finally Maan's tongue entered Geet's mouth sucking all her juices and gently bit her tongue resulting in Geet gasping "MAAAN...!"
"Keh diya naa sweetheart!" (You said it sweetheart!) Maan said proudly giving a passionate kiss on Geet's lips. "Abb tum yeh bhi keh do naa ki tum mujhse pyaar karti ho." (Now you also confess your love for me)
"Nahi kabhi nahi. Aapne meri jeebh kaat di." (No never. You bit my tongue!) Angry Geet ducked under his arms, then went and sat cross legged on her hospital bed grumpily like a young child.
"Accha agar mai phirse kahoon toh?" (If I say again then?)
"Tab bhi nahi!" (Even then no!) Geet lay on the bed turning her back towards Maan and covering herself with duvet.
"Maan beta, Veer sahi keh raha thaa, ki umar mei choti biwi ke nakhare bhi bahut hote hain. Chal Maan beta, biwi ko mannane!" (Maan, Veer was right that wife much younger than you in age has lot of tantrums. Maan get ready to placate your wife.)
