Filmfare meets the gods of the small screen who now want to rule the big canvas

Gurmeet Choudhary
While other kids went to school with oiled hair and dug their heads into their textbooks, Gurmeet Choudhary checked himself twice in front of the mirror before leaving home. Looks mattered to him and justifiably so. The small-town boy, who grew up in Jabalpur and later Chennai (his father being in the army), had begun to dream of being an actor at an early age.
His stint on TV was enjoyable when he played the lead in Geet and Punar Vivah. He also turned winner in the dance reality show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa Season 5 with choreographer Shampa Sonthalia. He competed in the dance reality show Nach Baliye 6 alongside wife and actor Debina Bonnerjee. Interestingly, she played his Sita in Ramayan, a serial that won him a crazy fan following. "My experience in television has been beautiful. But doing films is the ultimate dream for all actors," he states.
The actor is guarded about his role in his debut film Khamoshiyaan produced by Mukesh and Mahesh Bhatt's Vishesh Films. He shares screen space with TV hottie Sapna Pabbi. He has signed a three film deal with the Bhatts. From the candy romance in TV shows, he will be expected to graduate to a bolder realm. "All films by the Bhatts are not erotic. They are classy, not cheap. Sure, I was wary. But once I read the script, I was confident about my role and the film. I've got so much of love for my serials. Now I am hungry for more. I am nervous about how my fans will react." His life's undergone an overhaul but that doesn't perturb his actor wife. "Debina understands the erratic time schedules. Television is no less demanding. We know how to balance our life." And love too...
