Here's Chapter 1...hope you enjoy it.

Chapter 1: The Birthday Wish

Mohit: Where is Geet? Its more than 15 minutes now. She told she'll be down in ten minutes.

Pari: She's a girl, you duffer. And its her birthday. Obviously she'll take time.

Pari Shergill was one of Geet's best friends. She is Geet's bestie. They had met in the first day of college and had hit off. She was in and out of Kapoor Mansion and was treated like a family member. She got along pretty well with everyone but was forever at loggerheads with Mohit. Today she had come over to wish Geet and was whiling away her time waiting for Geet with her favorite timepass, arguing with and irritating Mohit.

But before Mohit could retort, Nisha interrupted.

Nisha: Stop bickering you two! Here comes Geet!

All 6 heads turned to the staircase. Geet was descending down the staircase wearing a simple Anarkali suit. She looked like an angel.

Raj and Nisha found tears coming to their eyes. They had practically raised her up and Nisha treated her more like a daughter than a sister-in-law. When Rano had passed away, Maanav was devastated. Raj had consoled and taken care of 3 year old Geet at that time. He was 17 then. Before marriage, he had made it clear to Nisha that Geet would always come first and she would first have to accept Geet before she says yes for the alliance. Nisha was more than happy to oblige. Afterall it is difficult to not like such an innocent soul. During their marriage Geet was 12 and from the first day of their marriage onwards, Geet had always come to Nisha if there was any problem. And it was Nisha who advocated Geet when her brothers became overprotective.

Looking around, Raj noticed the wetness of the eyes of his father and brothers and realized that it had finally dawned on them that their little girl had grown into a beautiful woman now. She was ready to fly.

Geet: (Noticing the wetness in their eyes) Oh no! It is supposed to be a happy occasion. Why are you'll crying like hormonal pregnant women?

Immediately their expressions rearranged themselves to form scowls.

Geet: That's more like my mean brothers.

Yash: Geet, did you just call your brothers mean?

Geet: I think I said that. But I forgot to add sadu.

Mohit: That's it Geet. You invited it.

With that Yash and Mohit started chasing Geet all round the main hall.

Maanav: Enough! Now let me have my Geetu to myself. Come and cut the cake dear. And then you can have your presents.

They had agreed not to throw a big bash since it was Geet's wish and they didn't want her to be exposed to the media.

Geet cut the cake and fed them all one by one.

After everybody had eaten the cake, Yash and Mohit looked at each other with ae evil glint in their eyes. Geet saw them looking at each other and her eyes widened.

Geet: Bhai...no...don't...BHAI!

They had smeared the whole of the cake on her face.

As she spluttered, Yash and Mohit hi-fived.

Yash: That's what you get sis for calling us mean.

Just then a voice came from the door.

"Well well well who would have thought that the men who make the boardroom quake would behave so childishly."

Geet: Meera! You pig! Why are you late?

Meera: Arrey Geet, I was arranging for your birthday present.And Geet , Annie said to wish you as she was not able to contact you and is currently in London for her fashion show.

Geet: Okay. But I want to see my gifts.

First gift was from Mohit, Yash and Pari. They had gifted Geet a sleek silver Nissan GTR.

She was ecstatic and squealed out her thank you.

Then came Raj and Nisha. They had gifted Geet a 3 bedroom bunglow which would be her very own and was specially themed according to Geet's taste. Infact the whole house was designed according to Geet's own designs.

Geet just hugged them and tried to put all her feelings into that hug.

Then was Meera's turn.

Meera: (Handing her an envelope) This is from Annie and me.

Geet opened it and her eyes widened in shock and amazement.

Geet: OMG...Meer...Thank you so much.

Raj: What is it Geet? Show us also.

Meera: Patience...Everybody will know soon.

Then it was finally Maanav's turn.

Maanav: Geet beta, I don't have anything to give you. Whatever I have is yours beta. If you still want anything, ask.

Geet: Actually I do want something. But will you give it to me?

Maanav: Of course beta. Your wish is my command. What do you want?

Geet, without saying anything just handed him the envelope which Meera had given her.

Maanav: What is this?(Opened the envelope) You want this? When did you apply?

Before Geet could reply, Raj and Yash took the letter and read it.

Raj: Geet? What is this? You could have told us.

Nisha: What is it Raj? You are scaring me.

Before Raj could say anything, Meera interrupted.

Meera: It is the internship letter from Khurana Constuctions. They have accepted Geet's letter to do internship there. It is a golden chance. They select only the best of the best.

Yash: But Geet, we had thought of creating a post just for you to do the internship.

Geet: That's the point. I would have been treated like the CEO's sister and would not be recognized by my talent. I want to begin from scratch. And ...

Mohit: And what? Anymore shockers left?

Geet: (closing her eyes) And I want to stay separately during my internship. I want to move out.

She had said this in one breath and hearing no reaction, she slowly opened her eyes. The scene made her giggle. Her brothers were staring at her as if she had asked for the sun.

Finally Raj broke the silence.

Raj: But Geet you are girl and...

He was not allowed to complete.

Nisha: Excuse me! What do you mean by that? What if she is a girl?

Meera: Yes, girls are stronger and more capable than boys.

Pari: We can take up on you any day.

Nisha: Just because we choose family over career doesn't mean we can't be independent. We all have our diplomas and can a job anytime we want. Get that?

Geet gave a small smile to herself. She knew that if the ladies were on her side, the battle is won.

Raj: I did not...mean that...I mean...I...

Geet: Bhai, I just want to be independent. I just want to fly and soar in the skies. I love you but I want to explore on my own. Please can you grant this wish of mine?

All the man relented. They could never say no to Geet when she pleaded with her puppy dog eyes and wide innocent almond eyes.

They finally gave in, but not before putting their terma and conditions. (They are businessmen afterall)

Raj: You will stay in that bunglow which I gifted you.

Maanav: There will be a 24 hour security and bodyguard with you.

Yash: You will take your own car wherever you go.

Mohit: And I will be your personal driver.

Geet: Okay okay. Now can we eat our breakfast? I am very hungry.

Nisha: Yes. Don't worry her. Its her birthday afterall.

Geet smiled and thought, "This birthday is the start of my own life."

Little did she know that this birthday wish of hers would be the turning point of her life.
