Chapter 21

At KC Vicky told Maan straight on his face that he wanted to quit his job at KC.

"I simply don't want to work here bhai."

"Why not? It is a family business, if you won't work here then who will?"

"My being here or not being here doesn't make a difference. You and Dev bhai managed very well without me. I mean, look at me. I work in my own families business as my brother's secretary. I just run around and follow orders. I don't want to do this."

"And what are you going to do? Run a company?" Maan remarked sarcastically.

"Yes, I was doing pretty well before dad made me force to join you." Maan raised an eyebrow.

"I love working at MC. That company has more opportunities than this one. You and Dev bhai run it. You two have the say. For the rest of my life I will be the underdog. When will I be able to convey my ideas?"

"You can still do that Vicky. I will listen to you and consider your ideas. I rather feel you want to go back to MC because of something else, or shall I say someone?" Maan made no effort of hiding his feelings.

"You know what, you are right. I want to go back because of Geet. She is very important to me bhai, you will never understand what she means to me." Maan was fuming after Vicky left.

Vicky tried to reach Geet but neither the staff members nor Riya knew where she was. She had taken her car and driven off.

"She does that when she is sad. She doesn't want to be seen like this hence she just takes off. Don't worry Vicky, she will come back, she always does." Riya explained.

Vicky went home with a bad feeling in his stomach. But the surprises of the day weren't over yet. When he opened the doors to his home he saw his father and both brothers wait for him. Great, now they will not spare me.'

"Vikrant, Maan told me you want to quit KC?" His father asked in a strict voice.

Vicky nodded. He had set his mind to it and he was going through with it.

"Why?"

"KC doesn't offer me any opportunities. I will work there as an underdog for the rest of my life. My talent is better used somewhere else." His father didn't like this idea.

"You don't become something from the first minute you step into an office. You have to observe more experienced people to know how things were done." Vicky was not in the mood of arguing. His father was wrong and he knew it from personal experience. Geet had given him freedom to explore his potential. She had heard him out and let him do. The time he had spent at MC was enough to show that it was not observation but actual practical work that made you learn.

"Dad, I do not want to stay in KC" Vicky said simply.

"Fine then go and work somewhere else and drag the name of Khurana into the mud." Vicky knew this tactic but was not affected. He just went off to his room.

Next morning Vicky came down. There was tension in the air at the dining table.

Maan was in a mood because of his misunderstanding Vicky and Geet's relationship. His father was in a mood because of Vicky's childish behaviour. The ladies kept quiet. They knew it was pointless trying to get them to sort out their problems. All three were Khuranas and hence incredibly stubborn. Dev read the paper. He had kept quiet yesterday. He kind of understood Vicky. Even he had his hard time with Maan bossing him around occasionally and Vicky being the youngest would suffer more. But he should still work in KC. Maybe another branch? There was an article that caught his attention. He wanted to hide it from the others but it was too late. Maan had started reading and his temper rose.

"This Mishra Constructions..." every one was looking at him. His father took the paper and even he wasn't impressed. The article showered praises on the company and its success. The hurting part was where is mentioned that MC had potential to even beat KC.

"I am sure the MD is playing foul. So many of our clients ended up with him, something must be wrong." Khurana senior concluded.

"Sure. The company was going downhill some time ago and now it is racing towards the top. I heard that the MD has set his spies around other companies." Dev said.

Maan remembered Geet. Could she? Maybe Vicky was trying to hide her intentions. She worked for him after all and read many confidential papers. She could easily pass them on to the MD of MC.

"The spy thing might be correct. I had one person working for me who might be a spy. She worked for MC at the same time." Vicky looked at Maan, disbelieve written all over his face.

"You don't really mean that, do you bhai?" he asked him.

"Why not? She is a beautiful and clever girl. It is easy for her to spy without arousing suspicion. Plus who knows why she was doing it. Maybe she was promised a profitable post by her MD."

"SHUT UP!" Vicky jumped up and his chair fell back. Everyone gasped in horror. Never had they seen Vicky be this angry, especially not at Maan. Naitara ran to her daughter as little Pari started to cry.

"Not one more word bhai. You have no right to judge someone you don't know." Vicky grabbed his bag and left. Before stepping outside he said:

"I think we all are better off if I don't come back. You guys won't stop talking ill about MC and I won't be able to hear anything about it."

Geet was in her apartment again. Riya and Armaan were asleep as she entered. All the time she had thought about Vicky. Now that she knew he was a Khurana everything changed. Why Geet?' her mind asked her. He was a Khurana before, too. It was just you who didn't know. He never misused his post at MC or tried to damage MC's constantly improving image. He was a good friend and even now is. You should hear him out.' Geet lay on her couch. She felt warm. She was hungry. She wanted to talk to Vicky. But right now all she did was sleep.
