Hum bas Geet ko pregnancy ke lie kuch tips de rahe the.
It took just these words to send Maan in a frenzy. Why didn't you tell me? He complained. Arre hum aapko kyu nai batayenge. Pregnant Geet hai aap thode.
Maan rolled his eyes. Geet wouldn't have heard a word n even if she did she would forget or ignore. Dadimaa you don't understand. Wait I will be back in a sec. Maan rushed out n came back with a notepad n pen, settling on the bed beside Geet n staring at Dadimaa right ahead as on some mission. Ab Dadimaa sab kuch shuru se bataiye.
Dadimaa looked at Maan amazed n Geet was actually irritated that she would have to listen to it again. She couldn't leave also because Dadimaa might have felt bad.
Dekho kaise baithe hai. She thought to herself, twisting her lips. Jaise koi important business deal ki taiyaari kar rahe ho. Kitni mushkil se babaji sab baat puri hone wali thi ab phir se sunna padega.
Pregnancy ek aurat ki zindagi ka sabse khoobsurat time period hota hai. Dadimaa started looking towards Geet with a smile. Aur isme aapka jeewansaathi aapke saath ho yeh bahut zaroori hai. Geet bete ab se apko apna acche se khayal rakhna hoga. Kyuki wo har kaam jo aap karti hai... jaisa khati hai, piti hai, daily routine adopt karti hai wo aapke hone wale baby ko effect karta hai.
Reflexively Geet looked down at her belly n something stirred in her, perhaps a protective instinct that she hadn't felt ever before.
Geet tried to concentrate badly but her mind wandered where as Maan was listening intently, taking notes n asking questions. It was both deeply touching n embarrassing, some things were womanly but he was adamant on knowing everything. Uff, when Maan decided to do something he would dig to the base with all the stubbornness in him n that wasn't a good thing always especially at times like this.
It started with Dadimaa telling about balanced diet n that Geet should drink lots of water, always keeping it in front so that she remembers to drink frequently. She should also do exercise, going for walks was a must to which Maan swear to follow. He instantly told that they would go for walk after dinner daily. Then came rest, gradual breaks on the course of entire day, also she should not sit idle, her mind should be busy in something or the other otherwise with raging hormones pregnant women were very prone to depression n Geet being already a patient of the curse needed to be more cautious. Low stress was key to happiness n a healthy, beautiful child.
It felt a little awkward when Dadimaa told about the general problem of upset stomach. Instead of taking complete meals together it was better for Geet to eat in small quantity at regular intervals. Also the women tended to urinate frequently during pregnancy so she should not drink that much water at night cause then it would become irritating n tiresome for Geet while sleeping to repeatedly go to the washroom.
No worries. I will take Geet to the washroom no matter how many times. Maan said as if Geet was going to have a urine attack. Apparently he was taking everything way too seriously. Madness.
Hormones are scattered all over the place when a women is pregnant. For every demand n complain you make there is a hormones to blame. Toh Geet bete aap Maan ka ji bhar ke fayada utha sakti hai. Maan didn't seem bothered by that he actually grinned at Geet. In initial weeks it would be more difficult, you would get all kinds of weird cravings.
What kind of cravings Dadimaa? He asked writing rapidly on the paper. For food n all. All?
Ab bete sab baat aapko hum nai bata sakte. And it varies from woman to woman. Toh kuch baate apko Geet khud batengi. Maan cocked his head n nodded. There would be changes physically too n also morning sickness, mood swings.
I hope physical changes are not painful?
Dadimaa glanced at Geet n smiled naughtily. Geet could literally hear warning bells ringing inside her head.
Nai bas-
Dadimaa... Geet interrupted. Hum baad me continue kare... She faked a yawn. Jaan if you are sleepy you go. I am here.
Kyu aap kyu nai chalenge? She held his hand to pull him up. Nai I will come once am done here you go. She made a super angry face which did nothing but to please him. Maine kaha na chaliye. Geet tum jao mai yahan khatam karke aata hu. Geet stomped her foot, irritated to the very core. Aap kabhi meri baat nai sunte. She walked out.
Dadimaa laughed, for the first time seeing Geet like that. Aapko jaake unhe manana chahiye.
Maan shook his head. Nai Dadimaa yeh kaam zayada zaroori hai. Mai usse abhi jake mana lungi.
And he did. She had decided to remain angry with him but couldn't sustain it for long. Just a kiss n few sweet words n she melted with her anger.
Maan stared at the packets.
Would she wear it? It had been days since he brought those but with everything going around couldn't show them to Geet. But now when the wind had slowed down n all things were almost sorted, he wanted Geet in them. The nervous, unconfident women in those conservative clothes hiding herself from the world wasn't his Geet. She needed to break the shell n let herself out.
While Geet was working in the kitchen there was a smile on her face. Maan after taking three days leave following the announcement of her pregnancy had joined back office on her insistence. Whole KC wasn't going to run on its own with the owner keeping loose tab sitting at home. And Maan had agreed though a bit sullenly but he was a man who was sincere and dedicated to his work. Yet he knew how to make the balance between work n everything else.
The umpteen calls never made her feel alone actually. He called to ask if she had her meds n food, to check if she was resting enough n sometimes just to tell that he was missing her. Maybe he wanted her to go to office n meet him there. But she never did. She didn't want to disturb him; also his suggestion of her working with him hadn't escaped her mind. He had left it for the moment but what if she went there n he brought it up again.
Was she even doing right running away from working?
The smile vanished from her face. She was just taking, depending on him completely. She had the credit card given by him though she didn't spend from it till now but all her expenses were born by him. And in return what did she gave him? A sick, torn, ruined wife? She had to earn for herself. He deserved better. She could never match him but at least try to be of some use. Tears blurred her vision.
As if he just sensed her need.
Strong arms draped around her waist n she was pulled against a hard chest. Geet sucked in a breath n swallowed the lump down her throat. His cheek with stubble was erotically scrappy against her skin as she put her palm there while he buried his face in her neck. Aap office se kab aaye?
Kuch deer pehle. His voice was hoarse n heat pooled down in her belly. With each passing day she had started to crave him more n more. Just thinking about him made her wet and now as he slowly grinded his body into hers she was ready for good. But today they couldn't make love. They had done it yesterday and with his one day break policy they now had to wait for tomorrow. It was damn difficult. More for him than her. Yet his will power was commendable. He came to bed after long cold baths n if he got hard he did it again. No matter how difficult he never pushed her away or something, always slept with his body draped around hers.
Why are you working?
I was only making a list of what supplies are needed in kitchen.
And why aren't the servants doing it?
Because I told them I would do it.
Hmm. You know you don't have to, right?
Geet closed her eyes, felt the tightening of his arms around her waist, his breath on her neck, the rapidly beating heart against her back n want swelling into her hip. I know, Maan. Her words were a sweet whisper. I am doing it because I want to.
Say that again?
What?
My name.
Maan.
He sighed as if relief touched him for the very first time n drew his arms back. Come. Tumhe kuch dikhana hai.
Geet gaped as Maan opened few of the numerous packets n laid the various attires on the bed. They were all exquisite. Are you planning to enter the fashion business too?
Maan smiled. Perhaps. Tell me how are these? He picked up a backless cream colored gown. Geet touched the fabric, she didn't know what it was but the softness slid along her fingers like silk n the stone work on borders, chest n waistline was intricate, flawless. It's beautiful Maan. Anyone wearing it would feel beautiful.
Not as much as you would make it. Geet cocked her head. This is for you. I don't-And all other clothes. Geet looked at the ones lying around. A line of jeans, few tops, a dress n skirts n don't know what was there in those remaining packets. You wasted all that money Maan. She trained her eyes on him. I don't wear such clothes.
But why Geet? You used to wear all these before. You don't have to switch altogether. Start with jeans n kurtis then see what you like n wear those.
I like the clothes I wear.
No you don't. You wear those awful clothes because you are scared to wear everything else.
Awful clothes.
Geet lowered her eyes. Aapko mai aise pasand nai?
Nai jaan. Maan raked a hand through his hairs. Mujhe tumhare kapdo se koi farq nai padta. He held her shoulders n tried to explain her tenderly. Par yeh tum nai ho Geet. Can't you see you are hiding behind this facet? Come out of it. Tumhe kisi baat se darne ki zaroorat nai hai, mai hu tumhare saath.
She hesitantly looked at the clothes. No she couldn't do it. Jerking his hands off her she took steps back and stared down at herself.
Awful clothes.
I am... awful just like my clothes.
You shouldn't be with me. You can... Geet couldn't even complete n ran out of the room.
Maan cursed under his breath n ran after her. She went towards her room made by him that had turned into her personal den n shut the door before he could reach her. He pounded on the door, called for her but no response came. Geet, don't hurt yourself.
I won't. I promise. Her voice was flat n low. Just... give me some time. Please.
He hated it, her running away from him. But Maan nodded tears in his own eyes, slid down the door.
Anything for you. He whispered to himself closing his eyes.
Later at night after long wait he knocked on the door for her eat dinner but to no avail. She had her sleeping pills in this room too so Maan guessed she must have taken them n was asleep.
When Geet opened the door next morning she found him on the floor sitting beside the door back resting against the wall n head lolling about. He was clearly taking a catnap cause his eyes opened the next second as he looked up at her. His worn out face broke into a smile that clutched her heart in tightness blurring her vision. Tum thik ho na? His eyes scanned her body for some damage as she sat before him.
I...
Love you. Geet caught her breath, the words on the tip of her tongue. God, what was she going to do? How could she force herself more on him? Maan cupped her face thinking she was going to apologize again. You don't have to say sorry Geet. He brushed his lips against hers. I will wait until you are ready. Bas tum tension mat lo jaan. Everything would get back as it was. And I will there with you all along, to catch you when you fall. He pulled her into his arms n she hid her face in his neck. She didn't think she could ever wear those clothes, could ever become what she was and had never been this ashamed of the fact. But his warmth n belief was assuring nonetheless.
He was there to hold her n she could have killed for it.
Pulling back he smoothed her hair back like nothing happen n everything was just fine. We have to go to Neeraj today evening. You remember that na? Geet nodded. Don't be scared. She wasn't, for a break she wasn't he was going to be there. He would make it all right.
They walked together that evening through the corridor of Doctor Neeraj's private clinic. She clutched onto his hand like a small girl, her heart beating fast. There won't be a time when she would get used to these checkups, hospitals n nurses. Outside the door Maan smiled at her. You are fine Geet n our baby would take birth all healthy n awesome just like his father. He grinned; a strong pillar for her strength.
