Part 42

Glancing at his watch for the tenth time within this last half hour Maan exhaled a breath of frustration. The exterior composed appearance he held so effortlessly was falling apart as the anxiety grew inside. What could possibly be taking so long he wondered? Feeling the tension knots he rubbed the back of his neck and continued to pace generously scuffing the floor beneath.

It was only when the sound of clicking heels neared did his movements still instantly. Turning his head he saw Geet walking towards him. As the distance between them diminished, the pit in his stomach deepened. Her face was unreadable with tears streaming down her cheeks. He hastily concluded them to be the result of disappointment. Ready to console her Maan stepped closer only to have her let go and run into his arms.

Geet encircled her arms around his neck and buried her face into him. Understanding the emotions of her current state was beyond Maan but comforting her surely was not. Holding her tightly Maan coursed his hand along her back soothingly. After hearing her deep breaths return to normal he leaned into her ear, kissed the shell of it and gently whispered. "It's going to be okay Geet. We'll get through this."

She tightened her grasp on his neck and smiled wide before releasing a soft laugh. Pulling away Geet lifted her tear streaming face upwards and beamed. "We already did Maan." Seeing his forehead crinkle, Geet clarified to alleviate his internal confusion. "It is okay Maan. Everything is perfectly okay."

Maan stared at her in disbelief. He had no doubt in Geet all this time but to know for certain there was nothing holding her back anymore left him speechless. Staring into her eyes he realized how wrongly he had misread them. Those weren't tears of disappointment, they were of joy. The emptiness in her eyes wasn't of pain, it was of freedom.

With the excitement and relief boiling over Maan wrapped his arms around her waist tightly and embraced her. Feeling her feet no longer touching the ground, Geet intertwined her hands around his nape once more while peering down into his moist eyes with a broad affectionate smile.

Seeing unveiled sentiments mirror back Maan could only kiss her without inhibition. He didn't care where they were, who saw them or what they would think of them. All he cared of was the woman in his arms. A woman, who proved to him and herself, that anything is possible no matter how rough the circumstances.

Geet no doubt enjoyed Maan's attention but they still had unfinished business so using all her willpower she pulled away. As a disappointed expression spread on Maan's face Geet shook her head but lovingly pecked his cheek. "This is only one battle Maan. Save some enthusiasm after we win the next one."

Maan's eyes lit up seeing Geet's confidence. This was the Geet he knew always existed deep inside. Smiling wide he leaned in and swept her lips into one more breath taking kiss. Despite knowing they really should be going Geet lost her senses in him and aided him further by snaking her hand into his thick jet black hair.

Slowly as they eased back to reality due to the need for air returning Maan grinned. "That was the reward for the next one." Geet smiled but tilted her head confused causing him to wink with a laugh. "Unless we are ready to make tomorrow's headlines of a personal nature there's no way I can kiss you at court."

Geet's face promptly reddened. After smacking his arm she dragged him down to their awaiting car before they got too carried away again. After a short twenty minute drive they arrived at the courthouse which entertained hysteria that rivaled their first court trial.

This time Geet was nothing but thankful for all the security Maan arranged because without them they couldn't have made it inside. With barely a few minutes left until the hearing was about to begin Maan and Geet practically sprinted inside trying their best to dodge the eager reporters. Her heart was pounding so hard in eagerness that she couldn't even hear their ridiculous questions.

Reaching the defendant's side Geet saw sitting in the front row was every single person she loved so dearly. Even little Piyu was there waving at her excitedly and blowing kisses. Her eyes watered seeing this and laughed at the same time wondering how many marshmallow items Meera had bribed her with to keep her so quiet. Meera recognized the question running in her mind and rolled her eyes saying don't even ask.

Vicky and Rohan were initially too occupied arguing about something to notice her arrival but seeing Maan come and sit by them caused their eyes to search for Geet. Neither of them had seen Geet since the night before so they were a little antsy to see how she was holding up.

Seeing a smile on her face caused them to let a breath of relief release. Vicky grinned giving her thumbs up which Geet shook her head at then gave Rohan an I can't believe you look, who shrugged his shoulder silently saying what else did she expect from him?

Her eyes next shifted to the only two people she could regard as role models and even parents in her life, Dadima and Uncle Chopra. Feeling so blessed Geet wanted to let them all know just what they meant to her but stopped hearing the bailiff. She turned her face to Mr. Klein who gave her a confident smile and signaled her to join him.

Not long after, the judge entered from her chambers and settled into her chair. She eyed the courtroom with no expressions given to anyone except a stone cold glare to the ever charismatic Edward Walters.

Geet had been so lost in her own emotions and happiness she failed to notice until then how much the color orange didn't suit him, especially in a jumpsuit style. For the expression on his face it was clear he wasn't enjoying the new attire or the metal chain accessories around his hands.

"Mr. Walters, I am disappointed in seeing you back so soon in my court." Geet wasn't sure if the flicker she saw in the judge's eyes was real but the sarcasm certainly was. Walters didn't respond but narrowed his beady eyes.

"The reason for requesting this emergency hearing shouldn't be too surprising to either party." She stated returning a look of contempt towards Walters and his lawyer. The latter at least had enough shame to shift his gaze downwards.

"With new revelations before us due to the courtesy of an unknown robin hood the momentum of the case has shifted drastically." She removed the spectacles that rested on her sharp nose. "I cannot consciously continue this case with expectations of lawfulness and integrity knowing the facts we know now."

Hearing the courtroom murmur and gasp she silenced them will a swift beat of her gavel. "Thus, my verdict for this case is dismissal with prejudice." The judge looked at Geet and gave a small but discrete nod before turning to Walters who looked confused. "Since it seems you don't quite understand Mr. Walters's let me simplify it. You are forever barred from refiling this claim against Dr. Handa."

The flare of his nose and heightened red shading to his skin tone indicated Walters was ready to spew garbage out of his mouth. Before his client picked a fight he was bound to loss he swiftly held Walters's arm recognizing the fact he clearly couldn't handle any more damage to this character.

"In reality though with so many legal proceedings Mr. Walters will be busy with now on, I doubt he will have time to refile this one." Feeling he had yet to suffer a complete dose of his own medicine she added further salt in the wound. "In addition to the case verdict I have been compelled to make one more decision."

She peered at Walters with unveiled dislike reflecting in her eyes. "I warned you before Mr. Walters's about your unconventional ways of bribing and corruption. You did not heed my advice and left me with no choice but one, to charge you with obstruction of justice and perjury."

The courtroom erupted with mutters and questions while Edward Walters's actually threw a fit this time. His lawyer simply sat there stunned with only one decision running his mind, quitting immediately.

With another pound of the gavel the room quickly silenced but only to erupt with noise once again after the announcement. "Court is adjourned."

Geet was ecstatic with the ruling. This was the last thing left in clearing her name so with it done and over with she felt absolutely liberated. Immediately she turned towards Mr. Klein hugged him and repeatedly thanked him.

He was a man that gave credit where credit was due so he simply smiled with shake of his head. "I promised you in the beginning we would win and we did. But it wasn't because of me. It was due to the people behind us right now."

"We won because you and they had faith in me. Words can't describe how much I appreciate that but I certainly will always remember the effort you put forward for me."

He saw from the corner of his eye the family moving towards them and his smile widened. "You know my secret now. Keep faith in your vision and it will materialize as reality one day."

Geet returned a smile which within seconds turned into a shocked expression feeling a tug at her legs. Down below was Piyu with arms wrapped around both legs and her face up in the air towards Geet with a smile bigger than the moon.

"You did it Geet! You won!" Piyu, of course, had little knowledge of what was happening but with Meera translating into five year old language that they won was all she cared about.

Bending down Geet lifted Piyu into her arms and cuddled her into her bear hug. "I did indeed Sweetie. You know what the best part is though?"

Piyu shook her head indicating no, "Having you here to celebrate with me!"

Her eyes lit up and the dimples in her cheek dug deeper at the word celebrate. To a five year old that meant only one thing and immediately Piyu started clapping her hands excitedly. "You mean we are getting ice cream?"

Everyone laughed at her enthusiasm while an amused Geet kissed her chubby cheek. Piyu wasn't too pleased with that type of affection and scrunched her face wiping her cheek. "Ewww…Geet stop! I don't want to look like Dad!"

Her eyes popped hearing that statement and looked at Maan. Sure enough, he had wiped any indication of their little celebration from his lips but they both conveniently forgot his cheek which now had Geet's pucker outline stamped for the whole world to see.

Seeing his brother toiling in embarrassment Vicky snickered openly while Rohan at least attempted to hide in behind his hand. Maan's shoulders slightly slumped. So much for not making headlines tomorrow he thought rubbing his left cheek while simultaneously pretending to scratch it in an failed attempt to make what he was doing less obvious.

In a hurried voice Maan announced he was going to join Mr. Klein and Uncle Chopra and bolted in their direction. Vicky immediately busted in a fit thereafter causing Meera to smack him. "I think we'd all appreciate it if you didn't embarrass us in public Vicky." She normally wouldn't mind teasing Geet but today was her day and nothing, absolutely nothing should put a damper on it she thought.

Piyu's loyalty had greatly shifted towards Meera lately and was quick to defend her. "Yeah Uncle Vicky! Behave yourself or else you can't come with us next time!"

Vicky pointed a finger at Piyu and attempted a mean face. "If you keep siding with Meera I won't take you to the zoo."

She scrunched her face and stuck her tongue out at him. Rohan laughed shaking his head. He saw Geet place Piyu back on the ground and went to stand by her side. Seeing the serene smile on her face softened his insides. "Congrats Didi."

Geet's eyes watered. She expected this day to be a nightmare but it turned out to be the complete opposite and Rohan certainly had a role in making it be that way. She hugged him firmly and laughed seeing him flinch when unconsciously neared his cheek. "Congrats to all of us Rohan…this wouldn't be possible without your support."

He pulled away smiling ear to ear. "My support was more troublesome than it was helpful. But I'm glad you aren't mad at me anymore."

"Siblings can never remain mad at each other forever Rohan, especially one like Geet." Dadi chirped. He nodded in agreement while Geet smiled softly at her praise. Dadima held her hands trying to not break down but her eyes still moistened. "It seems like yesterday we were sitting at the patio discussing life's twists and turns. You thought then you'd never make it but you did Geet." She kissed her forehead. "I'm so proud of you Beta."

Geet wiped Dadima's tears. "You know why I never expected to make it? I believed I had no way to do so. I didn't in my wildest dreams expect this journey which began with me to end with all of us." She then looked at Meera. "But I was just blind in my grief. I had my best friend the whole way. I know for certain that without her and her bringing me to you all I might not have made it."

Meera wrapped her arms around Geet's shoulders and squeezed her. "Please Geet…" She shook her head. "No Meera, without you I would've never found Dadima or Maan or Piyu. I would have never gotten my Uncle back or my brother back." She gazed at each of them with pure tender love. "Without this experience I would have never gotten a family."
